*Sigh*. McLaren was never the problem.....I can't even be bothered to defend him. Anyone who think's the recent problem's have anything to do with McLaren are fools, simple. |
Rubbish. McLaren stumbled across this team instead of selecting it. If Rooney, Lumpard, Beckham and Hargreaves had been fit, you telling me he'd have dropped them all for Barry, Wright-Phillips and Heskey?
No chance mate. |

A great manager gets the most out of his players, no matter how good they are.
McClaren doesn't get the most out of his players. |
A manager can only do so much. At the end of the day, he isnt the one who has to go out on the pitch and score goal's. Team morale and general singular mindedness is not somthing that is so easily fixed with words.

True. But to be fair, he'd only get flamed if he even tried anything of the sort. I'll admit it, without Rooney and Lampard I didnt think we'd get anywhere, but it just shows how ignorant of the game we really are and I think this will have taught Mclaren a lesson, that big personalities arnt good enough. |

I really hope so. We've all wanted a manager who was prepared to make the big decisions. Though half of my thinks that, come Estonia, Gerrard and Lampard will be wandering around centre-mid again not having a clue who's doing what, again. |

A good manager will get the team to play their balls out, even if they are losing 3-0. True, he's not on the pitch, but he will be the one to develop that mentality that a team never quits. Some managers have good leadership skills. Others do not. (I know it's harder to develop this mentality with a national squad)
Just look at managers like Big Sam, Scolari, Hiddink and what sort of team they've managed, but still putting up results because they got their players to work. |

I don't care how many bloody goals Lampard scores for Chelsea this season or how "fit" he is! He does not deserve to be on the England squad anymore since Gerrard is the better player and the two simply do not play well together. As demonstrated in these last two matches, players other than Becks, Lampard and Rooney can step up to save the day. There is always going to be a plethora of English talent (although that may change given the discouraging influx of foreign players into the EPL), but sometimes it isn't always going to be the big name stars.
Hopefully McClaren has realised this and will be more creative when he chooses his future squads. |

Heskey gives some good games for England, then gets himself injured and be out of action for 6 weeks.

| It's worth noting, to avoid complacency, that Israel and Russia (With it's endless injuries) wherent the best of teams and it might not be a good idea to start thinking we are world-class again. Optimism, fine. Fanaticism is likely to result in disappointment. |

I haven't seen anyone getting ahead of themselves in here, so I don't know what spurred that guff above on. England are still .
And as a side note, Russia ARE a good side. |

and Israel aren't a horrible side either. I wasn't getting ahead of myself, but I think that England will always have the talent to at least qualify (or rather they SHOULD) for the big tournaments. It doesn't necessarily mean they have a realistic shot at winning but there will always be world class English players from which to select a team. |

Perhaps you missed the bracket's.

Are you sure about that? Israel have a pretty crappy offensive team and if you can't drum up any offense in an international team your not doing to well. Not to mention the fact that the way Israel played their team in the match was not exactly the mentality of a good team. |
