Hadn't really thought about this, but then...
I started thinkin! :D
Last time I looked into going to Canada, last spring (which didn't work out) I found out that if I drove I did not need a passport, only my driver's license and birth certificate. Does anyone know if this holds true if I were to take a bus or train? I know you have to have a passport if you fly. I wouldn't mind the drive so much, but it might be easier on me to be able to sleep on a bus or a train, lol.
All of this is still up in the air of course. Depending on my tax return, whether I can get the time off of work, or get ppl to go with me to cut the cost.
Any help/insight/ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks guys :) |

| ^^ you need a passport. Sam used a birth certificate and a state ID at the niagara border, but I know that the montreal border is more strict and they gave me SUCH a hard time a few years ago when I went up with the same ID's. |

| Ooouch! Looks like I'll be skipping this year then. Last time I looked into getting a passport on such short notice it cost a small fortune. Well I guess this is the incentive I need to get off my ass and get a passport so I can make these trips in the future :) |

def get one!! YOu never know when you will wanna take a last minute trip!! (last weekend I took a last minute trip "home" to toronto, and I never would have been able to go if I hadnt got one!!")
Why dont you check to see if you can use your BC and state id? |

| well i wouldn't risk it anymore without a passport. basically the US acts like s to everyone entering our country so they have all wised up and required us to use our passports. oh well c'est la vie. |

Yea, I hear it's not so bad going there, but they give you a helluva time getting back into the US. I'll have a hard time explaining it to my family if I don't make it back into the country :tongue2 I am going to call the passport folks and find out all the info for sure. If I can go using my birth certificate and driver's license, fantastic! Otherwise, time to get my passport anyhow.
The only time I've ever left the country was in August of '06. I was visiting a friend in Buffalo and we crossed the border at Niagara and spent the day. At the time I was only required to show my BC and DL, but I'm pretty sure it's changed since then.
I shall let you all know when I find out :D
(I requested those days off of work just in case ;)) |

plus, remember I said b-lo/niagara is different. I have been across that border 100000 times and they are much easier than the montreal/plattsburg way. get on that passport girl!! |
