This is a pretty cool thread.
Basslines are like being stuck in a Chemistry lab... sonically, that is.
Just don't blow yourselves up, or get arrested for noise violations (fortunately, I don't have a decent sub-woofer). :tongue2 |

| I've been having problems even creating/finding a decent *quality* sounding bass line for reason, does anyone have any good settings or at least a site which has some nice starters? |

I don't know why people have trouble with this. All of my best basslines have been overdriven saw waves with some kind of filter effect. Maybe add a flanger. Basses are not rocket science, IMO.
Well, there's been the occasional squarewave bassline, but there's not much more to them. |

It's easy to bang on a saw-wave, but alot of basslines are BOTH the pattern fitting the sound, or vise versa.
Alot of bassline patch problems I've had are because people can't seem to get past the "Kick - Bass - Kick - Bass... " blah....
Now I've never used Reason, but I reckon that bold experimentation is both regards can help alot. |

Very true, but I've found that for each instance, the bass itself is fundamentally a saw wave. The only thing that's different is the tweaking. |

The subtracktor is good for bassline. Open one up, and bring down its ocatvve to 2. Lower the freq filter so it is not as harmonicy. Add a scream and set it to tube and turn down the damgae a bit, then boost the lows.
Should be a good bassline, and maybe ad a touch of ping pong delay. Make sure the delay is eqed. |

Hm not bad, it seems to create quite a "pingy/notey" sound instead of a deep runbling bassline.
dj_palm might have a point about reason not being capable of such deep sounds - im looking in to a rewire with cubase and VSTi solution to solve this + the fact it will expand my "sound bank" of course.
EDIT: Ok im finding some nice sounds now by playing around with scream / delay / flanger |
