ive got 2 basslines that might have been posted allready;
Kick:
|X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |
Bass:
| |y|Y|y| |y|Y|y| |Y|y|y| |y|Y|y|
Kick:
|X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |
Bass:
| |y|y|Y| |y|y|Y| |y|Y|y| |y|y|Y|
And this ones for psy:
Kick:
|X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |X| | | |
Bass:
| |y|y|y| |y|y|y| |y|y|y| |y|y|Y| |y|y|y| |y|y|y| |y|y|y| |y|Y|Y|
In the normal basslines big Y stands for one octave higher and a lil y means ofc a lower octave than big y's and presumably the original key for your bassline.
in the psy ones big y's is an increase of just a pair of semitones, just enough so it sounds good.
these basslines are mediocre and just variations of the normal rolling basslines of both trance and psy. |

Hi guys,
I'm completely new here to production section, and i don't know thing about production.
However, i've been reading a few threads here and there, and I just thought there's one trance track which really brings home to me the importance of the variation that basslines give to music.
Paco Lessoto - Le Mirage.
I dunno if u people have heard that track. I love it. BUt after reading this thread, i realised that the only thing that gives that track substance is it's bassline. If that was more static, the track would be the same thing over and over really and wouldn't give me the feel it does. (i still love the track).
ANyways, just letting you guys know.
Keep up the awesome work, and keep sharing with one another. |

I never really seem to have any trouble coming up with basslines.
here's something I do when I really REALLY can't think of an original line:
i make a complicated breakbeat, then I remove the kick and the clap, and all instruments that remain, I just put on the C4 note, I copy the notes and past them in a bass synth :p..
try things you'd think they really .. they might even sound nice after a bit of tweaking.. take this for example..
K---K---K---K---K---K---K---K---]:......(kick)
-*-*--888--*--*00-888-*--*-*--00]:......(bass)
*= 1/4 bassnote
00=2/4 bassnote
888= 3/4 bassnote
and put a friggin lot of distortion on them :p!! and a phaz0r on the mids and highs.. and nah nevermind just dont do thát :p
anyway you should also experiment with changes in drive with longer and shorter bassnotes..!
hope I could add something to this thread :) |

| can u guys post sample clips on the sequences? |

well ofcourse you could also play with the attack and decay/sustain of the bass :) gives a certain drive.
For example here is the bassline I used in my track Flat & Simple.
K---K---K---K---K---K---K---K---...(kick)
-B-bbbB---BB-B-B--bbb-BB--B--B-B...(bass)
B= 1/4 note
bbb= 3/4 note
bassline flat & simple
hope this drives you all nuts :p |

I added a ping delay to the bass line to come up with something cool (at least I think it's cool :toocool:). The ping delay on the bass was tempo sync'd (left channel at 1/2 and right channel at 1/4 with some feedback).
K---K---K---K---K---K---K---K--- (Kick)
-b----b----b---B-b----b----b---B (Bass)
The bass line is migrating from left to right getting further and further away from the kick (for the first three measures).
It sounds horrible with out the ping delay :D
Here is it's sample:

Edit: I just wanted to say this is one awesome forum and thread for that matter! |

Anyone heard Steve Angello - The End? That bassline is wicked:

Entire tune is awesome too, prolly my favourite. A real masterpiece, and a guide to how a track is supposed to sound.
Another favourite bass line is Fedde Le Grand - Las Vegas...
Anyways. Creating a trance running bassline is the easiest thing in the world imo. A layer of basslines is also easy. All you really do is something like this (don't think; do):
K---S---K---S---K---S---K---S---
--xx--xx--xx--xx--xx--xx--xx-xxx
-X-X--XX-X-X-XXX-X-X--XX-X-X-XXX
--Z--Z-Z--Z--Z-Z--Z--Z-Z--Z-Z---
x is the sub bass.
X is the mid bass.
Z is a mid bass too, but with some stereodelay on it.
I just made this up. Could someone try out if it's any good? |
