Sander van Doorn & Mauro Picotto @ Webster Hall [REVIEW]

Before getting into the evening I just want to say Sander was fantastic. If you liked his sets from ADE and the November Identity Mix you wouldn't have been disappointed in regards to track selection. I'm not really good at evaluating mixing technique but he sounded good to me and he was trying to be full of energy. He's one of the DJs that I like like his presence behind the decks because he genuinely seems happy to be there...the total opposite of say Gabriel & Dresden who look like they hate life whenever they are spinning.

As for the rest of it,WORST experiences ever. If you have Will Call at WH be weary for sure if you buy tickets from Want Tickets; Kelly totally got hosed. Once we were inside there was some opener who was alright, not my type of music but it was good for what it was. Then Mauro came on and I don't like to say bad things about DJs but honestly that set was garbage. The most manic set I've ever heard, minimal, house, euphoric trace, [w]Enya[/u], hard techno and everything else under the sun thrown together. No flow, bad track selection and it left everyone checking their watches waiting for 3:00am.

Crwd was full of crackies unlike any I have ever seen in my life. The crowd was described to me as a bunch of mental health patients who escaped from an institution and decided to take drugs. Honestly horrible. I was spilled on and once had an entire drink spilled on my entire left side of my body and the stupid kid didn't apologize. Another kid (with plenty of room) had the nerve of put his hand on me while I was standing still to shove me out of his way :wtf:. Needless to say I bitched him out :). Two drunk girls spilled god knows how many drinks in the ENTIRE section in front of the stage and if you werent' slipping on their drinks your shoes were sticking to the ground. The idiots got on the stage twice to make asses of themselves and one almost fell all over the decks. Classy

To finish that lovely evening when Sander came to the crowd he was insulted. "Sander I expected you to do _____, which didn't you do that?" damn complaints. And the number of people who asked "Wait who are you again? You are my favorite DJ" :wtf:. Or the crazy Belgians who were like "Hey have you ever heard of Belgium?" The poor guy was all smiles despite the obvious crackieness of the crowd.

Despite the two hours of Sander that event was a hot mess.

guess WH earns its venue rep once again after the last half decent shows where things were more or less half decent.. i feel bad for sander that he had to experience that

Of course MADE cleaned up since everybody who entered WH, even if they didnt go to the Main Room prob paid $30 at door. Hmm, yea, Im sure thats why they continue to book ppl there despite last weeks empty room for DT. Gotta love MADE. :p
stan229
hopefully cosmic gate will be better.. i have friends who are going there, i didnt recommend the venue .. but i recommended the djs , so hopefully they'll at least enjoy the performances

I don't blame Made for anything except letting those drunk idiots fall all over themselves on the stage. There were two line, one for the Made Event and one for their other room. Made didn't sell the SvD CG tickets in combination. It was the Webster Hall staff who didn't have the Will Call list which was supposed to be supplied by Want Tickets and it was the WH people who couldn't at least try to accommodate Kelly with a receipt or anything to show she paid cash to get in. Messed up situation all around. This is another reason I don't trust lists.

As for CG I wouldn't miss them for the world but I wish it wasn't at WH BUT despite my complaining it is better than Pacha which is just too small. WH is the only big room and there is nothing Made can do about that.

100% everything Wai said^^.

sander ing owned. I love him, love him, love him. I danced so hard I could barely move my legs at tyas.

However, For the first time EVER I am utterly embarrassed to have a DJ play in NYC.

For one thing, Mauro was so bad that the decently packed club that we had at 1-2pm was half gone by the time sander came on. The poor guy had to come here and play for a couple hundred people. I dont know what Mauro was thinking, and I NEVER say bad things about a DJ. At one point he was so all over the place that wai and I said that he was gonna play "soldja boy" as his next track (we then proceeded to do the soldja boy dance to entertain ourselves. :stongue:  We were counting down the minutes til sander. How annoying to have to wait til 3 and then only get 2 hours of the man you really paid for. :(

To top it off, the crowd was the worst I have EVER EVER seen. I swear it was like walking thru a mental health hospital, there were so many people just drooling on themselves and acting a fool. I would say 90% of the non-TA crowd was just standing in one place, drooling with their eyes in the back of their head. It was like schizo's on G.

People falling off the stage, people trying to LICK me, people crawling their fingers thru my hair, people falling on the floors left and right, people spilling drinks, people DROOLING (yes it happened!!), people passed out in every corner. Comfort Zone and Danny T crowds at 6pm the next day looked like sobriety counselors in comparison. This is where I felt truly embarrassed. I mean, who the fak goes to a party and feels embarrassed? um, yeah it was THAT bad. I couldnt even dance at a steady beat because every 5 seconds (no exaggerration) I was mauled by a head swinger, had drinks dumped on me, or had to avoid the people falling off the stage. Not to mention my feet literally stuck to the floor from all the that was spilled.

And to think I paid TWICE for this event. ALWAYS an issue at Webster Hall. Its like everytime I go there there is a problem. Made event staff was more helpful but the WH staff are idiots as usual. I would do it all over again to see freakin sander tho. The mans owns my dancing soul I tell you. hard, techy-trance beats. People were comparing him to preach all night and that is all that needs to be said. Sander put on a smile for us and was truly sweet and genuine after. haha I wonder how hard he had to fake that smile when the crackies kept asking him repeated non-coherent questions. I just hope he makes it back here after this fiasco, and sees what NYC truly has to offer. I think he was scared, as was I. :nervous:

This goes down as the worst party in history , and even that with one of the better sets I have heard all year.

WOW!:eyes:

I really wanted to see SVD but my hatred for WH is greater than my love for Sander. I'm glad I sat this one out.

I have come up with a perfect description on the night: The room was filled with a whole buncha Chris Luzz's circa Rhode Kill 2007 :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: no lie.

daphna I wish you came, we needed some good, normal, dancers up in there.
