i really don't see what the big deal is. as a graphic artist i definitely think that it's important to have a well-designed CD cover to represent the music inside. but a cheesy or crappy looking cover isn't going to turn me away from listening to an artist that i like. i bet a lot of DJs don't really have much say in what their CD covers look like. they're musicians, not graphic designers (minus maybe a select few), and they're required by their management to have press shots taken and most of the time those end up getting used on releases, event advertisement, press material, etc... i mean i'm sure they can give some input (especially the big-names) but i doubt they're sitting there fussing over the design of their CD artwork.
