I am yet to come across a reasonable hardcore Armin fan who doesn't shoot fire out of his ass. Are there any out there? |
yes i know many people who are not hardcore armin fan but that totally got my respect |

either way in the grand scale of things, i don't know what DJ ... in their right mind wouldn't want to exploit the fact they'd been voted #1 in the industry's most well-known poll in order to garner more fans... |

Hi. My name is Jake. I DJ. Hypothetically-speaking, if I were in that position I would still like to retain whatever musical integrity it is that I have instead of exploiting it. Nice to meet you. :)

that was my point (which you appear to have selectively quoted out). promotion doesn't necessarily affect musical integrity. excessive advertising alone doesn't make you a sellout providing you stick to your musical guns. |

I want to add this, from a Tiesto (number 1 promoting) viewpoint.
The big problem with having the marketing team hype up the event, and with promoters also hyping their event, is the wrong type of people are attracted to the event.
As soon as this happens, the DJ enters a vicious circle. He can turn up, with all the care and intention to play an integrity-ridden underground set, but he will know (after performing some shows at this level); that the crowd that turn up, will stand there like bored "morans" until that DJ thinks,to hell with it, i'll drop my track from 2000 and see if they react.
Armin and Tiesto are both guilty of leaving behind their best intentions and just "going with it" in the big room style, playing to way too many people at a time, and of course, the WRONG people.
When i see Tiesto in a concert, the performance is completely trite. The experience of the night is more a list of calamitous errors and negative observations about the people around me, than it is about how well Tiesto has DJ'ed.
When i see him perform in a 1000-capacity intimate venue, without the 24'000 other people who showed up "because its Tiesto"... then I get to see and hear a completely different DJ.
I'm not defending Armin, I just think that guys like him and Tiesto still have it inside them to make a decent set. The problem is the type of event that they agree to, and the target audience of these events, are ruining these guys reputations.
The worst part of that last point, is that as it was their decision to take that path... Armin (or Tiesto) should get no sympathy from us at all. They screwed up their career chasing the fame. Too bad.We can always find some better DJ to support anyway.
Googooly clearly hasn't reached that level of understanding with EDM yet. Hopefully he does one day. Although I wouldn't count on it. |

Ah yes, the get a life card, was that the one you were thinking of Mr.Mystery? |
Actually I forgot all about that one. He still has one card to play (I think, I stopped reading his posts after my eyes started to bleed).
Edit:
Oh no, he pulled the ultimate ace from his sleeve. The "I'm not playing with you anymore"-card is unbeatable. |
