New Beatport Minimum Quarterly Revenue Requirements

Wow, what do you guys think? All labels are now expected to reach $300 in GROSS sales each quarter. If they do not produce $300 in gross sales, they are put on probationary status. If the label is unable to hit $600.00 by the end of the second quarter, Beatport will no longer sell the label's repertoire and all content will be removed.

Beatport made a good move, in my opinion. There is just way too much music coming out every week, they needed to put their foot down. It should be about quality, not quantity.

I like this idea.

I am, however, still miffed about territory restrictions.

It could also encourage labels to pump out more garbage, though, to increase their overall sales and hit their quota, which would not be good at all.

from what it looks like their intent for this action is, I don't think they would allow this to happen.

ps. I'm all for it.

The best tracks are found in promotional form some 4-6 months before they're actually released.

beatport is only useful when i really need a track that i heard the night before at the club and i came up to the DJ and was like "whoa dude, that track was hot, what was it." and he names a random artist and song name, which i enter into my "notes" on my cellular phone. then hungover next saturday or sunday i go to beatport and scroll through my notes and try to find it. then they usually don't have it and i have to go back to my online record pools and dig for it.

i dont think this is new at all....

they've always had a system like this in place, though they may have upped the minimum - that sounds higher than I remember.

Honestly I thought I was the only one who ever noticed this. If I have to scroll past another one of his ty ass tracks that he releases every fricken week I was going to put a hit out on him. Honestly he must release three tracks a week of complete garbage. He should take his time, maybe release one every month and maybe come up with something good. Ohh and also redesign his retarded looking logo, looks like something a red headed step child would make.

~ end rant

I am for the idea in that it should clean up the site a little bit. However there are some hidden gems and really unique abstract stuff that wont be able to hit that quote and will screwed. I dunno, we will have to see how this pans out.

Not everybody has access to these "promotional forms" and they depend on purchasing the vast majority of their music.

It still s me off, though, that half of the tracks I really want are pressed weeks / months before they're released digitally.

But that is the problem. Instead of waiting for the next big track. Sitting around dying because so and so has it and you don’t just drives me nuts. I gave up that game a while back and honestly it’s stupid. Instead of hoping that you get your hands on that track dig deeper, find that track that is already out and rock it out.

Or go back a few years and dig up an older gem. Also I highly doubt you are paying for those promotional tracks when they are released on beatport which is complete crap. Every track I get as a promo I always buy if I play it when it is released to support the artist.

Well even if they do have access to them 90 percent they are not by the correct means. Also 95% of your average EDM fan has never heard most of the stuff people play to begin with so this strive for unreleased stuff is rather silly. Only the major trainspotters will really notice which are a small minority of EDM fans.

Exactly, I never did that before but over the last two years I do it more and more. Even if the tune is only a year, two years old I will still dig it out. I guess what I am getting at its the quality of the tune, not how exclusive it is that really makes it good. I have a few old jems I will break out that have stood the test of time which is key.
