Most people aren't able to comprehend that kind of sound.
man this has nothing to do with it.
ricardos first hour was harder to diguest if you are not a minimal fan, but he plays in a way that he gets you into it, i mean the latin acappella he droped seemed endless and the moment it finished the banging drum came in, people went nuts. it was good. liveact was good till it started with the synth solo everytime a new song played. either you like it or you dont. has nothing to do with understanding a type of sound.
im sure the party ended great with lots of people cause of ricardo dj set at the end.
84th Ave.
got there around 11.30, no line up, even got a memory stick lol, wasn't too packed at first, enjoyed the opening DJ, got everyone in the mood.
Ricardo's first hr was something that now i understand why his set was broken up. His sound was captivating from the beginning, slow, really groovy..the first 30 min wasn't music you can dance too, but perfect to hear. Became packed near the middle of his set, surprised that many people showed up
Beginning of Dandy Jack was amazing, he really picked it up from Ricardo's groove and gave people something to dance too, really really enjoyed when they preformed together, their styles really compliment each others, a great pleasure...
Ricardo's solo was again top notch, unreal how this guy mixes, recognized a few times when a mix was actually happening, and his technique and style are unique, his looping, his teasing, all something that an ABC dj would not do, he dropped some real bombs, and those acapellas were tipppppy. It was refreshing to hear something unique and different, and not the same house or trance guys at resolution. Ricardo may looked ed up behind the decks, but the guy knows exactly what he's doing in terms of taking you on a musical journey, that is well coordinated. Venue was good, a little too much lighting esp for a dj such as ricardo. Crowd was ed up, really rude and obnoxious, and hitting everyone.... :nervous: felt like i was at the guv in T.O :p
The closing dj performed well, esp towards the end, played excellent music to wind down to, 15 min in his set, i see Ricardo spinning a track or two, didn't want to come off the decks, then 10 min later i see him dancing right behind me lol, chatted with him for a min..
nice seeing the usual suspects and nice meeting Pascal + crew and Greg.....Pascal....have to party again! great night!!!
overall a great experience, not every day you can see someone has talented as Ricardo, and hear that kind of melodic music! love to see him agian, stereo??? :p

wow, what a weekend filled with fun, friends and good tunes.
I will have to continue this later though, I need more sleep.
- Veronica is discovered on the bus ride to Montreal :clown:
- wipe outs on the snow/ice covered streets of Montreal :(
- great greek dinner
- pre-party hotel antics
- Ricardo playing his "minimal jazz" (LOL @ Gera <3)
- Mr. Bean, Teddy, Pingu, Veronica, Richie, Julio and Ducklet had fun on the bus ride home...lol
I seriously couldn't have asked for a better weekend. I had great travel buddies and great music. There was fun from the moment we got on the bus in TO, until we got off the Subway after the weekend.
Metropolis, imo, is a great venue for parties. The lights/video screen were great. The sound wasn't horrible, I thought it was pretty decent. I found that you were able to chat over it without having to yell too much. I also liked the balcony and sound was good up there.
The first hour of Ricardo was extremely minimal. It was very original and was nothing like I have ever experienced. I had personally never listened to a Ricardo set prior to going into this party so I didn't have high expectations and I was amazingly surprised by the whole night. Ricardo played until just after 6am. I loved being up front and watching the grin on his face as he just ed with everyone. I had a good laugh :)
I can say that I am already anxiously awaiting my next roadtrip after this one though!
Got to Metropolis shortly after midnight. While I enjoyed what was being played, it wasnt 'loose my ' amazing. It had me wishing I was on a couch with a spliff and chilling out. Groovey, dubby but not "a night out at the club" - I enjoyed it, but not for that kind of setting.
Things really kicked into high-gear for me once Dandy Jack got on the decks - I love his sets, his quirkyness, even when going over-kill on the synth I was eating it up. The combo of Dandy + Ricardo was stellar - weird comming out of nowhere, funky basslines and beats, trippy meanderng parts that had me spacing out. As the night progressed I just lost my more and more, and had so many moments of "omg, I cant believe how en amazing this is!"
Ended up leaving at around 5:30-6ish am - I wanted to stay longer but my body was giving out on me, I have a bad back and it sort of went into full-on spazm mode which made me head back to my hostel an hour or two sooner than I would of liked.
All in all - was well worth the road trip up from Toronto, and I wish I could go back to Saturday night all over again.
The Highroller

I threw out my back the week before, slipped and fell on ice as soon as I got off the bus in Montreal and still didn't leave until after Ricardo was suppose to be officially done just after 6am (didn't know he came back on)
My back was sore halfway through the night, but that wasn't gonna stop me. Nothing stopped me from staying.. lol
