Pot roast is one large joint of meat, a hot pot is lots of little cubes of meat. In what way are they the same?

Pot roasting is a method of slowly cooking meat in a covered pot. It produces moist meat, making it ideal for older and/or less-expensive cuts; because the method does not require an oven, it may prove an economical option for those of limited means. The pot with meat (usually beef) and a little water, and often root vegetables, cooks over a low flame or in a medium oven.

Pot roast may also mean the specific recipe or meal produced by this method.

The meat most closely associated with this style, beef, is prepared by browning a roast-sized piece of beef (taken from the tougher chuck cut) to induce a Maillard reaction, then slow-cooking it in an acidulated liquid in a covered dish.

That doesn't answer my question.... at all.

I'll say it again. Pot roast is one large joint of meat, hot pot is many small pieces. They are not in any way the same dish.

The wikipedia pot roast article linking to a hot pot article at the bottom means absolutely nothing.

Is it . Pot roast or "cooking" meat is not a new american recipe.

How can you possibly even conceive that is true? Otherwise what the are you talking about?

The accompanying vegetables aren't even the same. Oh wow? both are cooked in a covered dish? So what... by your logic they must be a chinese dish because the chinese have been cooking like that for centuries. Cultures all around the world cook like that.

Will you be having cream or custard with your humble pie?

Are you retarded? How is that an american dish?
NeoPhono
There are some "American" dishes, but since every other country on Earth (for the most part), or at least the people that have been where current countries are, have at least a 1,000 year head start, there's going to be some overlap. I guess if I had to list what people consider "American" I'd say;

Barbeque
Cheeseburger
Fried Chicken
Buffalo Wings
(Philly) Cheesesteak
Corn on the cob (and just about everything else with corn in it)
Hot Dogs
Mac 'n Cheese
Pancakes

You also have California and Southern/Cajun cuisine which have their own lists of foods.

I'm not saying US food is the best, but as a country we tend to eat a whole lot of other ethnic foods and I think we do a pretty good job at it.

In the same way hot pot a British dish? Because it is a popular meal served in the country?!!

Cooking method matters little, there are only a handful cooking methods.

Wait a second first you preach to someone that pasta is chinese, now your saying anything cooked in america is automatically an american dish?

I loled.

Are you drunk?

Dervish
You loled? At what?

The fact you don't make any sense? First you ridgedly define pasta as chinese now if I were to cook a haggis in America it's an "american dish".
