From IMDB:
The movie is based [somewhat] on the infamous "Stanford Prison Experiment" conducted in 1971. A makeshift prison is set up in a research lab, complete with cells, bars and surveillance cameras. For two weeks 20 male participants are hired to play prisoners and guards. The 'prisoners' are locked up and have to follow seemingly mild rules, and the 'guards' are told simply to retain order without using physical violence. Everybody is free to quit at any time, thereby forfeiting payment. In the beginning the mood between both groups is insecure and rather emphatic. But soon quarrels arise and the wardens employ ever more drastic sanctions to confirm their authority.
I'll add:
The 'guards' and 'prisoners', as the story progresses, begin to accept their roles far too deeply causing chaos to spread throughout the prison setting.

CITY OF GOD (i own it and i watched it like 10 times haha)
The film is told from the viewpoint of a boy named Rocket who grows up int the slums of Brazil as a fishmonger's son, and demonstrates the desperation and violence inherent in the slums of Brazil. Based on a real story, the movie depicts drug abuse, violent crime, and a boy's struggle to free himself from the slums' grasp. |

My favourite foreign film of all time is La Vita e Bella. It won 3 Oscars, and a lot of other awards:

I have probably watched this film 20 times. I've seen it in French and in English, but it is just not the same as watching it in Italian. |
