long time no see ! Ok, not really. Many things have changed in my life in the past few weeks. I quit my PhD program. Got sick of my new advisor. He wasn't giving me a good research topic to work on. I was already 6 months into the program and didn't want to invest any more time (3+ years) by switching universities or advisors. So I decided to terminate my program from Spring 2008, wrapped up my stuff and went back to my home country. India has a booming job market atm. Awesome jobs + good salary packages.
It will take some time to get used to a different quality of life in India. But it feels good to be home after 2 years :gsmile: |

Holy crap, that's quite the change in a short period of time.
Good luck man, I'm sure it's quite nice to be back home. |

Yeah, I can definitely relate to the " advisor" situation, though mine was just the first I had for undergrad, so I'm sure it wasn't quite as bad as a rough doctoral experience.
Either way, being back home + solid job prospects sounds like you're better off. |

| Never sign up with assistant professors for PhD advising. They are fairly new to the game and tend to lack teaching and advising experience. This guy agreed to work on a mutually interesting topic when I signed up and then insisted that I work on a related but completely new topic in which I had little interest and zero background. Furthermore, he wanted me to start publishing papers within 3 months. I was like :wtf: |

Thanks guys. I haven't decided on settling back in India yet. But I figured instead of spending 3 more years in a small university town doing stuff that I don't want to, I might as well go back, get some work experience and take it from there.
