Menno F*ckin Rocks.
Menno is such a great Dj.
When is he coming back and holy sh*t Dave he really is awsome..

Walking around the club last night and meeting people who came from all over, even the Menno De Jong fan club with their huge poster.. Im not talking all over as just in northern california, people from CO, AK, TX, WA, FL, Miami and a some people from NY... Thats what was freakin awsome.

I arrived at the club around 9:30, probably my earliest yet to get the sound check going, and getting things in order for the night. I always try to get there an hour or so before hand, just to make sure things work right and I have no issues.

Ive pretty much had it with my current digital setup. My Lappy has pretty much had its run, so its time for a new one here coming soon.
Dont know which way Ill go, I will probably go MAC or Alienware. My plans include combining Traktor current versions and Ableton 7.1. I will also be using a midi keyboard cause for some reason I have all these crazy things in my head I need to lay out on sound.

Overall, I think getting their early this time around didnt really count. I got wind that they were changing out the Allen & Heath 92 with a Pioneer 1000, "Great"... I thought, AFTER I hooked everything up and did the sound check with the 92. the descision came from Menno's uppers, so the change had to happen.

Around 10:45 they proceeded to drop the mixer in. which gave me a little under 15 before the mainroom doors opened.

I've hardly used the CDJ's at 1015, but this time I thought I would give them a shot. Combining Traktor with CDJ's proved to be more versatile, so Ill probably be experimenting more with them in the future whenever I play again next.

I started off with some Electro Arty had given me. I didnt really get a chance to prescreen the tracks on the CD, and kept it as a backup should I have any issues with my lappy, which I did at the beginning of the night. 5-6 channels were out, so the first half of my set was really all over the place. I had to switch to channels 1 and 2 on the mixer. I had some technical difficulties in the beginning which made the the CDJ play the same track twice. But thanks to Marie being there, I was back on track. overall I felt like getting into things and trying not only some of those Electro Tracks on Arties CD, and throwin in my a few of my own choices.

basically, that CD saved my ass this time around. After last night I basically wanted to rip my Lappy in half for all the crap it put me through in the beginning of my set...

After the doors opened up at 11, I looked out to the crowd to notice a huge crowd of people. I wasent expecting this, but was hoping to see a good turnout at the beginning. I thank you all for coming out, expecially coming up the booth and saying hi and stuff. Those of you who came up to me and championed my set, Thank you. I am branching out into new genres which will allow me to be versitle.

Throughout my set I played everything but Trance, Highlights of my set included an Airwave Electro remix, Sied Van RielI played, and Andrieux track favorite of the night, its Time.

I got wind that Menno was going to play some classics, so I limited myself just to prevent us playing the same track twice, I also limited myself on Tiesto, his newer stuff, just because I knew that he would probably approach those tracks too to play. I actually encountered this when I opened for Blank & Jones, and Thrillseekers.

Those of you who came up to me and said great set, or that you really liked the last hour or so, thank you. I dont really like Pioneer mixers, maybe its just cause im used to Stanton and Allen & Heath Mixers. I felt a few than more tracks were a bit rough.

More on this later...

When Mennno came in, He proceeded to wish me a happy birthday. He arrived around 12:10, just enough time to get some drinks in him before his set. I think you guys got him so drunk he thought I was discodave. I told him it wasent my birthday, and that I'd tell DiscoDave happy birthday. Right from the start I got the feeling that Menno was a really cool guy. He came in smiling and the crowd began to cheer. After ending my set, the final 2 Tracks I played was my Mashup Freshmaus5 - Nothing but you baby (Dj Blurr Electix Mashup) and Luminary - Amsterdam (Super8 & Tab Remix). The only Trance Track I had in the entire set. Other notable tracks I played were Boiler & Van Riel - With the flames in the pipe (original). Maor Levi - Shapes (Oliver Smith Remix), Cressida - 6AM (K&A Remix), and Tranquilty Base - Surrender (Joonas Hahmo Remix).

Menno started off strong, and I got the feeling that I left him where he wanted to be...

More later when I wake up. 8:30AM now...

For now, A big THANK YOU to all of you who attended my opening set. A bigger thanks to TAJ for allowing me open for someone of Mennos Caliber. Definitely will be a night I will remember as I continue my journey as a Dj.

What an amazing set by Menno de Jong! Been waiting to see him since summer of 2006 when I went down to Spundae's white party at Circus (and where I discovered how awesome Kristina Sky, much more than the 2 headliners) and where Menno was playing at the after party. Unfortunately this was the day he wasn't let into the country and had to wait on a VISA.

As soon as Menno started his first track, I looked at Taj and tell him this is going to be GOOD! Just got this amazing pre-03 trance feeling. Didn't know it would be better than Armin in 2004 at 1015 and I was in the front for that whole night w/ Jason (ninetyninej on TA). And none of this me caring the camera taking pictures – just there up front waving my arms and jumping. Sure it wasn't a 6 hour set but it was close and so much more energy especially the second part of Mennos set. He interacts with the crowd so well and getting on the DJ booth while leaning down a bit to still mess with a few knobs beats Dirtyhertz doing his monkey hanging (Dirty is still my favorite hippie!). Reminds me of SvD and J00F but just so much more into it.

Just a guess but maybe the Friday night outing with Menno to clubs and lounges showed how much we do love trance in SF yet there is no venue or promoter that brings out headliners or even holds a night with locals besides Taj! There are a few other promoters but honestly not really as trance driving as much as Taj but understand there is a business side to everything... even told Menno before leaving dinner to play hard full on trance!!! In hopes I wouldn't hear too much prog but just jump into it and destroy the dance floor!

Taj always lets headliners play as much as they want and I'm glad Menno took advantage of it! Really hope Menno shares what he recorded.

A friend asked me about going to Ibiza last night with him and others but to help him on some photography and video, hopefully even in the clubs. I rather go to Germany or Japan, one can only party so much. Just do a few clubs like Watergate/Concoon and a massive like Dance Valley or Love Parade (although in Berlin in a few years hopefully!) yet still enjoy the non-EDM side of things is what I'm planning. Menno recommended Sunrise Festival in Poland while at dinner. I've seen videos of it and its just amazing and hear great things about eastern Europeans and its scene. So if a Germany trip ever happens, It'll be around Sunrise Festival date :D

Menno got another one of my favorite drinks! But of course it was really water down so I got him the drink from everyones favorite bartender, T! Again, I'm glad Menno was playing cause I wouldn't be albe to keep up with him haha

Taj, you know how you said I would be at M.A.N.D.Y. if they were over at the End Up at the same time as Menno, well I wouldn't after tonight! :p Did skipped on Droog and Audio Fly but whatever, theyll be back.

Besides the horrible news I received that just shattered my heart, it was a great night and wouldn't be any where else if I could do that all over again! Thanks again Taj! :D

sorry for any bad spelling or grammar but im just waking up. will try to do the my photos later today.

Glad to see people have fun. Menno of one of the few DJs I'm dying to see, but why yesterday of all days....stupid weddings...

....and now I'm sick again! Throat started killing me yesterday and so swollen/sore now hurts to even move my neck. The bugs going around the area this season are wicked.

That was a trademark Menno set.. I am trying to ID one track he played, somewhere in the middle toward the end, it was kind of electro, then had a strong melody (sounded like a minor key) in the break.. no vocals.. I know that could describe a lot of tracks but any ideas? :toothless this might help, I remembered the melody
yep its Markus Schulz - Fly to Colors (Genix Remix)

oops double post..
