No, not at all. Why?
Edit: As a matter of fact, I am reading a book about human evolution in this very moment :p |

What is your opinion on the matter? Darwin did related primates to humans if i remember correctly. What do you think is meant by the fact that states humans did not come from monkeys? |

- Monkeys are modern members of either the Platyrrhini Parvorder (New World Monkeys) or the Cercopithecoidea Superfamily (Old World Monkeys);
- Homo sapiens is a modern species, which is part of yet another superfamily (Hominoidea);
So, along with all other simians, we do share a common ancestor, but we didn't evolve from "one another". As a matter of fact, we're not the pinnacle of evolution or anything. That's something we should make clear to creationists, before they start babbling about how their grandparents are not monkeys :p |

As a matter of fact, I did like it... that's why I'm now confused as to why you imagined I thought otherwise :p |

I'm sorry but i have to 1000% disagree with your post. I grew up in Christian home. My parents were missionaries when I was younger and now my father is a minister and my mom works along side of him. They have never forced God on me. In fact the reason I believe in what I believe is the transformation I've witnessed in peoples lives when they CHOOSE to believe. Christianity at least in my experience has never been about being forced to do something its a choice. We have free will. Christianity is about an open relationship with your savior it is not a Religion. Anyways I think we've ventured far enough from the original subject of this thread :toothless |
If I may.
My comment was a general one at best. The absolute certainty is that each offspring will be taught, initially, to beleive in a certain thing... whether it's right or wrong is beside the point. The religion they hold on to doesn't matter, it's the fact that a greater being is the only creator is. The seeds are planted in the mind at an early age. Like you, others are told what to beleive in, be it Christianity, Muslim or other. The odds the you will completely embrace another religion, or disbelieve in "God" is extremely thin... this goes for other people too. In a sense a child is forced simply because (generally speaking of course) they are not given any other options. The majority will hold true to that belief, even if to some degree, till they die. If you can generalize then you would have to agree that when you do the numbers, most will not break away from those beliefs. This is why religion and the belief of some "God" is factually accepted by the majority of the world. Darwin helped, amongst others, to bring about other possibilities based on growing evidence that perhaps not all is as we were told.
As I said before, the evidence is so overwhelming to support evolution that it no longer can be just referred to as theory. In the roughly 4.5 billion years our planet has been around, it's said that it has been smashed apart by cataclysmic collisions as to seemingly wipe out all existing life at the time. Fortunately life is so tenacious, even when stacked against such odds, surviving deep underground as bacteria or other, it somehow arises once again to evolve into higher forms of life to repopulate. One day we may come to the realization that the formation of life is so easy that, in one form or another, the universe is actually infested with it. |

What you believe is a convenient illusion your parents have crafted for you.
I pity you for not being smart enough to see through it. |

My disgust at close mindedness is an equal opportunity kind of thing.
I think religion is one of the most incredible and intriguing facets of humanity and have far more respect for it than most, but I will absolutely not abide by the kind of ignorant drivel being spouted from the mouths of people like miamitranceman890534290325.
I genuinely hate the fact that I had to read something like " I think its evident just by this thread that when science and "religion" mix its often not a good thing......"
That's the kind of language and attitude that a lot of people get killed over, when in reality it's just people who believe things like the above who should off and die in an effort to aid natural selection. |

honestly though, you cannot mix science and religion. Its best to leave the two far appart. Relgion is based on beleif while science is based on factual empircal evidence.
You will always lose an argument to a creationist as in the end it comes down to belief. How do you prove belief? you cannot.. you just do or don't. |
