how could you? it is a level headed comprised statement. I have never read anything posted by you in any thread that would deem any kind of response.
anything that has ever been posted in any thread having to do with religion of any kind, God or god, politics, morals, anything with organized structure is followed by some ridiculously asenine post with no rational thought or argument. inferiority complex much??? or is it small man syndrome??? perhaps your a tad bit insecure??? i dont know try figuring it out and maybe you'll be able to post something with substance. |
Maybe he already has posted his opinion about 600 times and you're the 601st person to say "Well I'm pretty sure we didn't evolve from monkeys"
lol |

i have ALWAYS stated that i have no problem with people believing in god. just that it never stops there does it.

if you're gonna try and sound smart, at least get the spelling of asinine correct. i make plenty of (admittedly often caustic or rude) coherent arguments concerning the nature of many things. there are also many posters (in here and the PDD) that i will engage in thoughtful, polite discussion with. because i respect them even if i dont agree with them. just because im rude doesn't mean theres no rational thought or argument.
but, if you bring into an evolution debate some bull obviously learned in sunday school then yeah, im not gonna bother being polite because you don't deserve it.
religion has been benefitting from people being far too polite for far too long. just look at you, ting over thousands of hard-working scientists and all of their research just because you believe in god. if you really think that this opinion is deserving of respect then ive got news for you, and its all bad.

if you knew ANYTHING about me at all, you would actually diagnose my superiority complex. i have no time for disingenuous fools that can't even comprehend the dishonesty in their posts. its not really my fault that you fit into this category, whilst other people like lira or halcyon or clovis do not, so stop blaming me.
your statement concerning evolution got exactly what a creationism apologist or evolution denier deserved. |

yeah, that too. im far from being an evolutionary biologist, but that's exactly the ing point isnt it? as arrogant as i am i am nowhere near as arrogant as those that arbitrarily dismiss the colossal mountains of evidence and research on a whim because it doesn't fit in nicely with their religious view(s).
intellectual honesty is seriously important to me, and those that do not engage in it will earn my wrath. raaaarrrrrr! :toothless |

I have no problem with people believing in God. I have a problem with people who bury their heads in the sand when scientists infinitely more knowledgeable on complex subjects present pertinent information that clearly demonstrates how theres is no POSSIBLE other solution to human evolution than us evolving from monkeys. (I'm paraphrasing here and I am NOT an expert), but I read a fantastic article in which several scientists working on decoding the human genome successfully showed that humans suffered from the same diseases millions of years ago that certain primates had. The evidence is embedded into our DNA like a time line of diseases and subsequent immunities we evolved with over millions of years. It's just not possible that by a coincidence we also suffered from the same exact epidemics at the same exact time and developed the same exact immunities. Unless you just choose to say "well I think thats hearsay" in the face of people who have spent their entire lives on the subject.
I mean, it took a while for everyone to start agreeing that the world was in fact, NOT flat, but now where are we on that? There are so many clear, definitive, solid arguments in favor of evolution that it just really shocks certain people (like myself) when someone will just all over scientists who have spent years figuring out these amazing complexities just to say "Well I don't believe that", because I don't see it as a question of faith. Read the opinions of people who know more than you, I enjoy it, and I am much more inclined to believe scientists than the alternative. |
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Now bear in mind I am a scientist and I had to explain this to people in my class. That's right, I have people who do science at university with me who don't believe in evolution yet they seem to do just fine in exams involving complex viruses and bacteria, blood cells, genes etc. Their argument was that they just learn it all off by heart and how it all "apparently ( ) works, yet they don't believe in it.
I mean wow, doesn't that just blow your mind? :eyespop:
I'm also a spiritual person in a sense, hence why I often disagree with PKCs overly zealous one sided views, but there is no way you can deny the evidence for evolution. The saddest thing is you can't debate with people about it because they pull up the most absurd arguments imaginable that there's just nothing you can say back to them. Then they proceed to mock you and say you can't argue back because they are right and you are wrong. FFS

i also would like to point out that evolutionary theory is only problematic for idiotic theists, i see no problem with a belief in god AND evolution. you just need to dismiss the obviously absurd ideas like the world is less than 10K years old.
and i certainly have no problem with people believing in just about anything, as long as theyre not using that belief in some bull quasi science to undermine accepted scientific fact.
yeah, im a zeolot. but at least us atheists are merely armchair zealots. we're not trying to force people to learn creationism in the science class, or trying to discredit the entire work of psychiatry. its all a matter of perspective ;) |

This is absolutely the worst part about it. It's like banging your head against a brick wall. There is such a huge mountain of evidence, both historical and current, in favor of evolution. I love the study of life and how it works and it's just absolutely ridiculous that we can still have people so completely blind, with such archaic ways of seeing things. The evidence is there, everywhere, all over, proven time and time and time again, in thousands of ways in thousands of examples and thousands of plain and simple explanations. The ignorance in the face of it is absolutely mind boggling. MIND boggling. Then you realise we have people like Mike Huckabee, and Mitt Romney running for president in this country and it's just completely depressing. Absolutely depressing. because I guarantee you that Mike and Mitt would argue their way out of it the same way. With completely juvenile logic, devoid of any factual knowledge and evidence. I was actually thinking about this yesterday after reading an article in which Huckabee was quoted as saying "You can believe we evolved from monkeys...I just happen to believe otherwise." It's not a belief! It's truth. Theres just no two ways about it... |

hahaha. but what is "fair and balanced" though really. if someone wants me to be fair, they must bring the evidence. i am much much less concerned with the existence of god than i am with religions influence in the world.
now, that influence cannot be denied, so i really do wonder why people are surprised by people like me and their attitudes towards it.
i have ALWAYS accepted the possibility of god, so there's your "balanced" ;) having an opinion doesn't make me close-minded, it means the "other side" has yet to present facts, evidence or argument that i find compelling.
im fair and balanced, just an arsehole is all :D |

I know man, it actually makes me angry.
I had a chick in my class as me to give her evidence for evolution. When I told her to grab any simple primary school science book as that would even be enough, she goes "Na but I don't believe it. They are still just theories so I want actual proof". I seriously just wanted to cry.... |

which is why some of us (who shall remain nameless!) resort to mockery and abuse because really, some people deserve it :) |
