The OP doesn't sound like a mindless bandwagon-jumper to me -- he's just trying to broaden his horizons, which is admirable. In a perfect world, everyone would be willing to explore the genres they didn't like, as there's at least some gold in every genre and style! :)
BTW - reccomendations for the OP: listen to sets by Guy Gerber, Paul Kalkbrenner, and some of Sven Vath's recent stuff. Go to www.mixesdb.com for all that. Also the Jason Porter May 2007 "Minimal Mix" comes highly recommended. That's available in the thread with all the Jason Porter links I made a while ago, use the search. |

Check out the whole Diynamic Music catalogue. Plenty of gorgeous melodic stuff there.
Also, some suggestions off the top of my head (not exactly minimal but you get the idea):
Daniel Mehlhart - Kamasutra
Chymera - Arabesque (plus more of his stuff)
DOP - Between The Blues EP (the whole Circus Company label is great)
Superpitcher - Tell Me About It
Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Tristesse
Pawel - Early Bird / Gabriel
Sascha Funke - Mango
Lee Jones - Aria |
I checked out some of the artists you mentioned, and a couple of their other tracks... Pawel, Daniel Mehlhart, and Chymera were excellent and just what I was looking for, thanks! |

Usual stupidity in this thread from the usual suspects.
I specifically liked the part about minimal being a "new genre that's emerging"

I started off liking trance and house, I myself live songs that create emotion(vocal trance, some other trance). But then there is the other side of me, the groove side/dance in the dark room at a rave side. I started liking more and more house > progressive house/tech house, some melodic minimal house. Then I listened to some TECHNO and it just started to move my body, about 3 month ago I started to like tracks from Popof and slowly started to like dubfire.
Then I stumbled over a mix that a local Montreal Dj by the name of Dj Creator and the mix was called "No Holds Barred" you can download it at www.ravemontreal.com . First I thought the set was way to minimal and techish for me, now listeing to it 2 month later as my tastes have evolved I just can't get enough of it.
I for once never in my life thought that I could like tracks like Dubfire - Ribcage, Plastikman - Spastik (Dubfire Remix), Meat Katie & D. Ramirez - Stop the Revolution.
That set is full of banging tracks that if you turn it up loud with a good sub it steady starts off with house and then from about 25 minutes till the end goes into VERY BANGING HARD ON DARK MINIMAL TECHNO.
I have been sick with this set for like 3 days now, can't get enough of it.
/end Rant
And back to the topic, tastes evolve themselves, I still like trance and house and techno. But the moods for these are all very different.
Minimal just makes you want to dance in a dark room. |

Isn't melodic minimal an oxymoron? |
I asked myself the same thing. ( I am not into that sound anyway but still...) |
