apparent complexity is not a qualifier of melody...
it's simply the perception of a series of tones as a single phrase
this is actually the point of minimal -
to reduce melody to the simplest possibility. |

eh, I sort of disagree. This lends itself to the whole idea that if you don't like something upon the first listen then it is therefore not worth taking the time to explore further. If that were the case then dubstep would have been a huge turnoff for me. But I kept pursuing it and I finally "got it" and now I like a majority of dubstep. Sometimes you have to force yourself to like a genre even if others call it bandwagon hopping. If you find yourself truly liking the genre then what's the problem with "hopping on the bandwagon"? |

im not worried at all. im actually glad minimal is taking over. this will do 2 things. it will give all us loving the good an easier time of identifying good tracks cause the people who dont jump on the bandwagon are dedicated most likely making better music. secondly it will give all us producers now time to get better. once people get tired of minimal we'll be making decent tracks and we'll all be rich!! haha jk...but maybe |

if you guys want to listen to stuff like that then just listen to kraftwerk. i think they already mastered the minimal approach to music and their music is older than most of us here. once modern minimal production catches up to them...then ill listen to it more often. |

It sounds to me that you didn't force yourself to like it though. I think you had somewhat an ear for it yet couldn't find the appropriate tracks to win you over. Decided to go digging because you thought it was interesting then wanted to go deeper.
The OP on the other hand, doesn't understand or appreciate it at all, yet wants to convert because his favorites are pushing that sound. No hate towards the OP...infact I hope you do accomplish your journey into the minimal sound or any other genre for that matter.
More is always better, no boundries...(except for , of course :))
Also, imo the OP is more into giving Tech House or Techno a chance. I'd suggest exploring those first (if you haven't already) and then moving slowly into minimal. |

Heard this on Allied Nation's "Chinook" set and bought it. I've been listening to it on loop since then. It's not minimal - more tech; but with more melody than I'm used to listening to in Tech...
Give it a listen

I don't have the slightest clue on what the hell is "minimal" any more. Seriously, every single track people listed in this thread that I recognised (and I do like a lot several of them), I labelled it as tech-house or straight techno.
