this is actually the point of minimal -
to reduce melody to the simplest possibility.
So melodic minimal means minimal with a more melodies? So is this minimal ? :p

I agree that most of what people on TA seem to think is minimal is stripped down tech house/house/electro

I don't have the slightest clue on what the hell is "minimal" any more. Seriously, every single track people listed in this thread that I recognised (and I do like a lot several of them), I labelled it as tech-house or straight techno.
:wtf:
Exactly.
Which makes me think the OP is going to have an even harder time getting into minimal when he tries out some of the proper suggestions posted.

That's a completely wrong way to approach music. You shouldn't be forced to like a genre. If it's not your cup of tea, so be it.
Talk about jumping on the bandwagon...

Because it makes people feel cool to like something that is popular or trendy.

Personally I'm a big fan of minimal
the techno stuff is awesome...
Spirallianz
The Delta
Metalogic etc
and so is the minimal psytrance acts
Infected mushroom (on their first album)
Shiva Sidpao
Shiva Chandra
mmm
Minimal is certainly a lot better then progressive anyway.

i don't think the OP is actually looking for minimal,
but we know he means 'stripped down tech house'/microhouse
HOWEVER - ultimate melodic minimal track:
ambivalent - nugget
OP - be aware that you're likely to encounter melody in the form of 'rhythm melodies', that is repetitive figure that emerges from rhythmic patterns
i don't think you are really looking for minimal, but more of this: (tell me if im wrong)
isolee - beau mot plage
gui boratto - chromophobia
anthony collins - parrafine
lee van dowski & dachshund - so what --- love this track
spektre - winterfall
kollektiv turmstrasse - tristesse
h.o.s.h. - blaupause
sebastian roya - compresion (rekliener remix) (not very minimal)
rekliener - the state of things
mark august - minor detail
solomun & stimmung - feuervogel (guido schneider remix)
pantha du prince - butterfly girl (sten version)
lars wickenger - villa incognito
solomun - jungle river cruise
sebbo - beirut boogie
two lone swordsmen - the bunker
marco resmann - gouache
minilogue - the leopard
chaim - bedolff (guy gerber remix)
patrick zigon - mental draining
the field - over the ice
if you're looking for melodic or dreamy techno, suggest you look into the world of dub techno, deep techno, and related musics.
here i find refuge in the soundscapes and ambience, but they are still raw, emotional, rhythmic, and visceral, not manufactured and contrived like modern trance. for me it's got to be a combination of skulling AND souling. the repetition provides a framework for freedom, creates a field or a forest. i like music in which i can drown myself.
minimalish tech house and minimal are only good for me in the right atmosphere, which is usually a huge abandoned space with no lights, low ceilings, lots of smoke, and substances. also the little plastic strips they use in meat freezers help. i don't really follow this type of music even though about half of the parties i frequent are geared towards it.

ok hold up. this is wrong in so many ways. not in terms of being minimal techno, but Im talking about the quality of his/her/their songs. check this one out
I really wanna see whats going through the mind of a minimal fan and explain how this is a good song. now I realize it's from 1993, but there was loads of quality songs in 1993, and everyone seems to praise this song called Spastik. all I hear is drumming throughout the whole 8 minutes. I love classic songs but this is probably on of a few exceptions.
it's made entirely with this
again, rhythm melodies

Reminds me of when people tell me all they can hear in EDM is the BOOM BOOM BOOM.
