I have a theory as to why the opinion of Americans abroad is so , and it has nothing to do with excess, the war in Iraq, or policy - it's the fact that no one in this entire country seems to own up to a ing thing anymore; there is absolutely no sense of personal responsibility in this country.
At the very least that's true in the image we show the world (regardless of whether it's true of all of us) - we have Roger Clemens in front of Congress, Britney Spears on the front of every news paper, and sue anyone we can in an attempt to hide our own idiocy (yes, I'm talking to you s who decided to sue after you spilled coffee on yourself - you're a clutz, off).

Honestly, I spend so much time defending America and Americans on here, but a lot of what people say is true - and that absolutely ing kills me. |
i have been saying similar things since i was 15. |

Beautiful. If this is how everyone could interpret religion the world would change overnight. The problem, however, becomes how does one define "too serious"?

Fahad, while I do think that people need to re-evaluate how seriously they take religion, a good number of the people that take it too seriously are also very narrow minded people in general. They are unwilling to realize that religion is not literal and the fact that they can be wrong. |

I get so tired of people playing the "it's the bully's are at fault" card it makes me sick.
Educators who turn a blind eye are at fault, parents who raise bully's are at fault, video games are at fault, society is at fault - everyone is at fault except for the kids pulling the ing trigger, and I think it's a load of .
I'm not arguing that circumstance doesn't have anything to do with it - all those factors can certainly play a role, but for s sake we need to stop making these kids into martyrs and victims.
It's the mindset that it's always "someone else's fault" in concert with "politically correct" culture that seems to be to blame for this nonsense. Knock it the off. |
I'm sure the families of those who died couldn't care less whos fault it ultimately is - they just wish it never happened. I'm merely trying to identify what causes these shootings so that some attempt can be made to prevent them. My argument about defending oneself relates to bullying because, well, these 2 things are very related in schools. |

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy :(
As a Virginia Tech alumni, I know exactly what kind of emotional state you must be going through. This whole thing makes me sick and extremely sad.
I wish we could be over senseless violence like this.
:( I am so sorry |

Here's the thing though - you aren't ever going to cure bullying. Ever. It's not going to happen.
Cave men? Their cave-kids bullied the piss out of each other.
You can't oversimplify an issue like this and then just try to "cure" it - it's just not how they work. And as far as self defense? See above comment regarding the "politically correct" culture in the U.S. |

Legal?
There are times when I think they should be mandatory. |
