The man, 27-year-old former student Stephen Kazmierczak, was also wielding three handguns during Thursday's ambush inside a lecture hall.

The shooter had been a graduate student in sociology at Northern Illinois as recently as spring 2007, but was not currently enrolled at the 25,000-student campus, Peters said. He also said the gunman had no record of police contact or an arrest record while attending the university, about 65 miles west of Chicago.

Apparently this guy was well-liked too. Which is why this whole thing was incredibly random.

Just goes to show that there is no necessary "M.O." for these kids - and in my mind is all the more clear indication that it's a societal problem, and not an individual problem.

This just annoys the hell out of me. You don't like your life.. do what you gotta do.. but taking innocent people with you is BS

That line you cross when the maddening death noise bats at your ears, the world screeching to some developmental halt, towers and rules falling inwards as willpower gives into the pangs of a trigger finger wishing for release. At this point, I very much doubt that the individual barriers we are conditioned to respect even exist any longer; people blur as morals fall and what seems like a once in a life time last experience quickly turns into what most would consider a sort of insanity, though maybe we should redefine our terms to accommodate for the fact that not a one person is sane or normal or innocent or intact - that we are merely buzzing bits of ambitious consciousness in the cycle of unwilling destruction.

by now I assume everyone knows of a school shooting incident over the past 8-9 years. Maybe one dead or 100 dead does not matter. Right now who ever is doing these random acts of violence in school around children is just a competition to see who can out do one another instead of taking there issues out in safer forms. It is like Kid A kills in school and shoots himself. Kid B says you know what I will copy what Kid A did try to kill more to get more attention. Its sick because no one wins. Innocent victims and suicide

These school shootings are getting old and sad but when another one happens time will only tell. When will someone do something about this problem in our government? When a school shooting has occurred at every single school from grades 1-12 and college?:conf:

Only way to compare is in middle east they have these bombings that kill 20-30-40-100 + which no one can help because it happens in an instant.
They have their reason over land and war.

In our country we have disturbed people with guns killing x amount of people in an instant:whip:

When your government ends its imperialistic ways.

Make stiffer rules/laws on guns might help. Seems it would be impossible to outlaw them altogether.

Our country right now has a civil war(Students Vs Random Gunman)

I would say that the US' imperialistic ways have everything to do with a mentality of violence and fear in society as well as an acceptance of it over years of patriotic conditioning to believe in its remoteness from everyday life. It is a lie, of course, but one that people would like to believe, not dissimilar to God.

But random acts of mass violence have everything to do with this same claustrophobic, commercial society people are raised in. Can you destroy the society - the want? No easier than you can destroy God. People want to believe in their safety - they want to believe in their righteousness to the point of a plastered smile and Sunday handshakes and hollow adages to infect others with this same lie of perpetual ignorance. But people want it. And the marketing is just so grand.

It's really no wonder that some people snap.
