while i am fascinated with planes of all type, the use of pure bombers has really come to an end in this day in age imho.

Not really, we're still using the B-52's, B-1's, and B-2's quite a bit

I'd say the large bombers are definitely still useful. What was the last decade where NATO didn't have total control of the air? With the bombers able to fly with total safety they just become a much cheaper means of bring mass amounts of ordinance to the area.

Yep, one of my good friends is down there training to fly them. Since it's a training base they are constantly flying.
