What do you mean? The guv themselves put the volume too high or did you purposefully want us to lose our hearing! I hope its not the latter or we can't hear any of your future great productions!
Nice sig...I hate that song man...I went to Cuba 2 weeks ago and the MC would keep saying "put your hands up Detroit, I love this city" over and over again at the club, even when that song wasn't on! |

Oh the bloody drama! lol
It was my first time seeing deadmau5 and didn't know what to expect, but as mentioned he set the tone and James followed with a really surprising banging and hard set with his signature awe-inspiring wizardry, and like Jon Jon said the comparison isn't fair and valid.
Fact is that the majority of the folks in the GUV main room were having a blast and going bananas for both DJs, now if the music wasn't up to your personal taste that's fine and dandy, but judging by the crowd's reaction all night they both had the room by the balls, which is what a good DJ does, the gear/equipment doesn't matter (except for the gearheads) even if they play with their balls and a rubber band and get the crowd going like what I witnessed that night, it more than counts.
now back to bitching about petty things ....
and Liam, please buy a new watch. :) |

my take on it is this... make music, record music, play music, have fun, help others have fun.
not sure what you meant by "losing quality" when you play a CD... granted 99.9% of the tracks released in the last num,ber of god knows how many years were digitally produced albeit the mighty "render" at 24 / 16 bits... which gets transfered sample accurate to CD.. at... 16 / 44.1...
hey but thats cool, some guys like the sound of vynl, and thats pefectly fine too. whatever works for you.
im a technology guy myself... so as it becomes available, i exploit it by whatever means possible... everyones got their own way of doing things... but the argument parralell to "is it still cool to wash your clothes on a rock in the river...sure. just dont in on me coz i use a maytag" always managed to irk me a bit.
the lovely bit about ableton + other software is that its as simple.. or as complex and technically challenging as you want to make it.
for instance... yeah, in effect, you could load up 2 columns of tracks , add hitpoints, hit play, xfade, and voila.
of course to me, that'd be boring. sure it would probably sound fine... but some others (including james) also use laptops as an integral part of their DJ set.
my setups changing every month or so... new hardware comes out, new controllers, new software, etc etc... but ive found a fun little way of delivering a "quasi live" set by controlling various aspects over the Lemur / Monome 256 / EFX1000 / djm800 etc etc...
having something to "beatmatch for you" while your doing 5 other things at the same time at this point is pretty much a nescessity... then its all about grabbing loops, resequencing drum patterns, isolating tracks to route to external effects... it can get pretty nutty and fun. |
as much as I enjoy hearing a DJ use good ol' fashion Vinyl, technology has allowed for more creativity in tracks...allowing producers and DJs to fine tune tracks and make them more their own. I know I could never use all the new software simply because I am not technologically savy. DJing.....just like everything else has evolved and will continue to evolve.....what does bother me is when DJs take the easy way out so they can spend more time doing a bunch of showmanship that, for me personally, takes away from experience of the night.....a DJ can show he is into his set without having to have to showoff to the crowd. |

When it comes right down to it.....the DJs job is to play music for people......what means he uses to play that music is irrelevant....it shouldn't matter if its vinyl, CDs, Ableton, or a trained monkey. |

well... what to say about saturday .. hmm
first off it was great seeing so many TAs out.. you fags know if I saw you or not so there really is no point in listing all of your names
got in a little bit before deadmau5 .. caught some alicia hush in the acid lounge... that girl is insane.. i love her sets. if you havent checked her out yet you need to.. seriously
i couldnt really get into deadmau5's set.. he did drop a lot of fun tracks but i wasnt feeling the set as a whole. I was bored a lot so I ended up roaming around between the main room and acid lounge.
JZ.. not my thing at all. sorry.
If it wasnt for Carlo Lio and all of my friends I think this would have been a very early night for me.
and as always.. my super tall twin sketch <3 thanks for keepin me going! |

Wow. Carlo.
I completely forgot.
I made numerous appearances into the Acid Lounge for his set. It was difficult at times to leave the main room….but every so often I was “oh … I gotta go see Carlo” and off I went.
As always. Very enjoyable set. I knew a Carlo or Nathan (or both) would suit the Acid lounge so well. |
