probably gonna purchase the 880is within the next two weeks unless something better has come out... wanna test out the camera a little bit so i can be familiar with all the settings before i head to ibiza.

is the canon 880is still > everything else at the moment?

note: mostly just need it to take decent pics but awesome video (i.e. base response)

Yes, the 880 is the best atm for the price.

haha nice.

Quite honestly, the biggest selling point on the 880 (and for the previous generations of this camera the 870, 860, and 800) is the wide-angle lens. Most pictures will be in a close-up manner, and as such, you need a wider viewing angle. Which this camera specifically provides. And it gets great battery life, pretty high resolution with good quality pixels, and nice and pocket sized. Battery usually will last a good day or two filled with picture taking, if not longer. And with the advent of SDHC (SD cards over 2gb) you can get 16gb SD cards and never worry about running out of memory for a day or two, or maybe more, depending on your use.

Nice! Do you get to control ISO and aperture settings while shooting video?
malek

Looking at Canon's website it is not discontinued, but it has been replaced. The new replacement is the Canon SD960IS. Since it has been replaced, it will probably be hard to find it for a reasonable price anywhere except ebay .

thanks for the info.

now the question is if the 960 is really better than the 880.

i checked ebay and other than used or refurbished most 880s are around $400.

It is. More megapixels. 12.4 vs 10.3. Although the 960 has a 2.8" screen vs 3.0. Otherwise, they are pretty much the same.
