CDJ 800 MK2 Vs 1000 MK3

I'm trying to decide between which of these to get. I'm only getting one at first to keep the cost down.

The main thing that seems to be swaying my decision towards the 1000 is the ability to adjust pitch by 0.02% as oppose to the 0.05% on the 800's. Does anyone who uses these decks find any major difference between those two incriments while mixing?

Also, there are so many threads around where people praise these two machines. It's obvious that they're both great but now I'm curious about what people dislike about them. The look? The feel? Any problems or major dislikes?

I've read information about the 800 MK2 jog wheel that seems to be contradictive. Some info states that the jog wheel is heavier but still moves extremely loosely, much like the original 800 with only a little more tension. Whereas other info states that the jog wheel has been improved to mimic the feel of the 1000 MK2 wheel. Can anyone vouch for this?

Thanks in advance for your info!

Afaik the 800mk2 wheel is like the 1000mk2 but dont hold me to it

In terms of .05/.02 war, i have a CDJ-200 and i use .05% on it with my CDJ-100 which is .1%, Its a matter of getting used to.. I personally believe .05% gives me all the precision i need, the rest is what the jog wheel is for.. if i were you id go to a store and play with both and see which one suits your fancy

Get the 800s. Much better bang for the buck. Use the money you saved and get a nice mixer.

It would be nice to save the money but I'm scared of getting the 800's and still longing for the 1000's :P gotta have the "best" afterall hehe

Regarding the mixer, I've had a pioneer 600 for the last 4 years. It'd be nice to upgrade to an 800 but that's a little out of my price range, especially after buying a CD deck.

One day though... :P

It really depends on your mixing style. Sure .02 will get you closer but a lot of times I leave it on .05 since it is faster for me to beat match that way.

This logic always confuses me. If I want to beat match faster I'll pitch up and down in .04 or .06 increments in the first instance, then fine tune by using .02.

To the thread starter: If you're one of those people who want the top of the line stuff, get it. You know you'll feel slightly empty forever more if you by the budget stuff. The track layout display is an absolutely fantastic tool that you only get on the 1000, and in my opinion is actually worth the difference when coupled with the pitch resolution. Also black looks so much sexier than the silver.

Well, sounds like you've already made up your mind. If that's all that's stopping you, then go for the 1000s.

It's a win-win either way.

+1

the little bells and whistles on the 1000 will make it more useful in the long run, especially if your goal is to play out

if bedroom djing is your thing and always will be, save your money and get the 800's

everywhere i play out has 1000mk3's, i'm so spoiled, it's awesome, only one djm-800 though, the rest use 600's

Gotta disagree there. The similarities between the two are so close that it has no bearing on if you'll play out or not. The transition from one to another is effortless.

Fully agree with you too that a nice mixer > nice cd decks. You can hold a mix fine on the 800 mk2, a nice mixer will do much more to make you sound better.

800's will be fine, and though this may sound strange, consider getting one of each.
