Unfortunately it's $300 more for a macbook pro.

I'd much rather have my MacBook for a lower price with better specs and equipment.

:)

well yeah. The only air I would even consider is the one with the CF drive though.

$1800 for a laptop that has more limitations than advantages? The thinness was such an important factor for steve spin doctor jobs that he overlooked everything else thats crucial in a laptop. DVD, ethernet, removable battery, more than 1 usb port, firewire just to get a ful size keyboard and screen? Even with all that slimness, the laptop still isnt small, and definately not all much more portable.....why? Because the dimensions are still big! Its wide, tall, and will require just as big of a carrying case as any other standard laptop. And with all the missing components youd need to carry with you, its no longer all that portable.

For 500 dollars less you could get a laptop that does everything you would need in a complete package and still fit into a manila envelope; its called a MacBook. A normal one. And, has more offerings.

I've been looking at getting a small portable laptop for myself lately, but i dont have a huge budget for that. Ideally, id like a Sony Vaio TZ series laptop (way better than macbook air btw) however, i cant afford it, and dont really need all that it has to offer, a laptop for me is really only needed for simple things; check email, write messages, go on msn, download random stuff, play music and watch a divx movie on the go when im travelling. Surprisingly, and sadly as ive never taken the laptop seriously, Asus EEE PC has been on my mind a LOT lately. For $299, it does just about everything a macbook air can do and still has an ethernet port, removable battery, 3 USB ports (not one) and VGA port (huge plus). The only downsides are the processor, hard drive (real crap), video and ram. Since neither laptops are really geared towards power users, processor, ram and video isnt much of a priority. Hard drive space though, is bad......starts at 2gb flash. Newer models will move to 12 and 20gb in the next couple months (although prices will be higher).

Still, at $299 getting a laptop thats 2lbs (2/3 of the macbook air) and a little over 8x6 inches in size.....its FAR more portable and cheaper.

Apple dropped the ball on this one, but then again, apple isnt on my preferred list of late since its been 3 months after steve jobs has said theres a fix in the works for the geforce 8800 GT getting to work on old generation mac pros (which i own) and i have no real option for a video card upgrade, eventhough jobs did say when he launched the mac pros years back that expansion would be great; he obviously lied.

I have a dell latitude 420, and i find the no dvd drive to be a non-issue. an external hard drive is a perfect replacement.

Also, why does one buy a mac when you can get any other laptop, install leopard, and ta-da! same for less, minus the retarded one-button mouse.

Please tell me you're aware that Macs are quite capable of using multi-button mice :wtf:

I've never owned a Mac, and even I know that.
