He's giving the impression that macs are now more vulnerable to viruses because they use Intel architecture. This is false as intel macs have been around for about a few years and ive yet to hear about any kind of virus that attacks OS X.

It's a nice laptop but for the price it's not worth it. Sure it's small but the battery life isn't that impressive (people report it doesnt actually get a full 5 hours), lack of optical drive, lack of ports.

For the price I'd get a fully specced out Macbook which is faster, only weights about a pound more, has an optical drive and is still pretty small.

Still doesn't seem to make sense to me, but hey, whatever.

I'm not sure where you get your information from, but there's nothing about intel that makes it more or less vulnerable than that of a power pc. The problem is that the OS and software tend to be hardware-specific, which is why OS-X is not easily ported. The only reason OS-X has ANY defense against viruses is because its kernel is based on unix, which is unarguably more defensible in most respects.

Alot of the reasons why apples don't have many viruses is because there's no market for it. Why would someone write a virus that would only affect maybe 10% of the market? Thats what apples previous hold was, I'm not sure what it's up to now.

But this I do know - Viruses and malware for macs are increasing at a much higher rate than for PCs. And from what I've heard in the tech community, viruses for macs tend to be more devastating than for pcs.

I will give some credit to OS-X; it is more difficult for a potential virus to threaten the kernel, because OS-X has implemented what I'd like to call retard defense; a dialogue which opens up and asks you if you'd actually like to install something. And other things based upon its unix platform.

Honestly, if you still use limewire to download your porn, and then are surprised when your pc or mac won't boot, maybe you should hang up the whole using computer thing and head off to the library.

But really, my point is that there is *nothing* amazing about a mac which makes it impenetrable to viruses. IMO, macs cater to the computer illiterate and don't have anywhere near the same flexibility as a PC. It is arguable that one pays for this flexibility in potential virus threats. To some people, thats important. To others, its more important that chicks check you out for your laptop.

You forgot to some, that using a computer is about productivity and simplicity without being bogged down by anti-virus apps and other such crap. OS X doesnt require anywhere near as much maintenance as windows (no registries FTW). Being a graphic designer i have no time dealing with regular blue screens or freezing, or even a task manager that really doesnt do the computer a whole lot of justice.

The whole claim for apple 'it just works' is truer than one would think. With vista out, this puts thing on a whole new level (vista is a failure).

Thats windows.....not OS X, and said virus would only affect a windows partition.

This is what I think of the Macbook Air.

I too am a graphic designer and have experience with both macs and PCs. I actually have a mac and pc at my work, side by side, and I use my PC 99.8% of the time.

Macs do not just work, you are lying, and so is steve jobs and his website.

I've had more problems with my macs (not just one, but a couple I've had at work) than all my pcs combined.

Here's one example for you.

I wanted to set up dual monitors on my G5 tower. I have two apple cinema displays. I go to the back of my computer, try to plug them in.. and what's this? Oh, the plugs can't fit side by side because apple uses a rediculous white casing around their monitor plugs (making them wider than they should be) and the monitor ports on the graphics card on my APPLE G5 are too close to fit the two side by side. Thanks Steve Jobs. I can't dual monitor on my apple computer with apple cinema displays. And this is just one sample of apple's ridiculousness.

you wouldn't have to deal with regular blue screens & freezing if you actually bothered to take care of your computer. Windows PCs don't just come with blue screens and freezing applications by default, you have to cause damage to your PC to get that. Since most people don't bother to do the proper research on anti virus software and clutter their computers with crap + forget to uninstall that crap once they decide they don't need it, they blame the windows OS on all their problems.
