Most trance with lots of vocals sucks IMHO. |
Yes and 90% of rest agrees with you, BUT I am afraid the rest of 10% might actually like vocal trance and we dont want to hurt them or take their rights to call their choice popular and 'the best'
so it can be that vocal trance is more popular and cannot be called as 'the' most popular and loved trance. |

Jeez people let's talk about the thread subject. this should only be like 3 pages long so far but it's seven.
"Can you really like trance as your favorite music?" |

You really lost me there. "IMHO" means 'in my humble opinion' in case you didn't catch that. I think most heavy vocal trance sucks. There are plenty of people who love it and think it's the best. That is all opinion and it is fine. I can't tell someone who likes vocal trance that they shouldn't like it cus what I like is better. What I like is better to me...not them.
Or maybe that was sarcasm you were using? LOL |

So yes jazz is technically more complex...I still don't know if I can say technically 'superior'. Superior by definition I think is a subjective word. Complex is objective. |
I said that it is musically/technically, not aeshetically superior. I don't understand why you have a problem with the word. |

Because superior suggests 'better' as opposed to 'more' and the word superior is an objective term. technically superior...it's just words that don't work well in my mind. That's why I differentiate between 'more technical' and 'technically superior'. More does not mean better.
I get your point though and think we agree on the subject. We just maybe disagree on what superior means and perhaps neither of us are more correct about that. :D |

I agree, not because i dislike vocals and lyrics, but because i feel that part of the essence of trance as a style is that it's instrumental. |

Ya ok, but in the end.. the end result is just a fail... no matter how much you artificially complexify and sophisticate it. |
Tell that to the countless people who had mystical experiences over the music of Dizzy Gillespie and the like through the course of the 20th century.
I mean seriously, just because Jazz for you is a "fail", then it means that is not good? A musical genre which has decades of tradition, with countless musicians, subgenres and fans supporting, enjoying and playing it, suddenly sucks just because you find recent club music to sound better in your mind? This is a hugely biased egocentric view of the world my friend.:stongue: |

Very true IMHO. Too many vocals carry trance more into pop. There are some trance tracks with vocals through out that are beautiful and mesh well with the music and are more of an instrument in themself. then there is vocal trance where the vocal is the focus. Blech. |

I don't think "more musically complex" means "musically superior."
Something like Schoenberg's "Verklarte Nacht" is more complex than most of Mozart's music, but I wouldn't say that it's "superior" at all. |
