I once tipped a cab driver because he didn't stink.

Delivery charge is totally a tip.

depends on the country i guess. if you don't pay the delivery charge here you won't get your pizza.

get out of the food industry if you dont want to rely on tips.

no, but they remember addresses and next time your pizza will be cold, at best. If it doesn't have special sauce in it.

See this thread from today for more info & flaming about tips

This is coming from an ex server and bartender, so don't lecture me on tipping. I know full well when someone deserves a tip and when they don't.

THIS. Don't whine about expecting a tip because you chose a job where you're being illegally underpaid.
Good service = tip. It's like respect.

Basically, the FARK thread I mentioned above = 20x big brother of what this thread may become.

Eeeeeeeexactly. I've never tipped a pizza guy, except the couple of times our old newspaper delivery guy when I was a kid (who also happened to live a few houses down) worked for a local pizza chain shortly before he retired.

Sometimes. And rarely will all of it go to the driver.

Also, why do people still discuss tipping on the internet? It just makes people furious, time and time again, and no one ever changes their habits because of someone else's point.

That said, I work as a delivery driver, and have for 2.5 years now. YES, I agree the tipping system is stupid. THAT SAID, every culture has their own norms and whatnot, and tipping happens to be one of ours. I make $5/hour before taxes, thats all the people I work for pay me, and the rest is tips. There's no delivery charge, and I get no compensation for gas, wear+tear on my car, etc. So, if someone doesn't tip, I am paying for the gas to get that person their food, and making under minimum wage to do so. Its ing retarded, but the prices of the food are set with that in mind, if tipping wasn't customary the prices would without a doubt be higher. This system saves the company money as it shifts the cost to the customer. However, it ing sucks that some people do not understand the unstated but assumed extra cost in the price of all goods delivered.

I'm not trying to knock you or anything here, but... why work where you get paid and have to pay for gas (especially when it's climbing in price)? Why not retail, stock some shelves or something? You'll make minimum wage at least, plus there's less gas and wear/tear on your car involved.

Oh I make better than minimum wage, and my job is cushy as hell. I'm really not trying to complain :p. As a matter of fact, I ing love my job. Just trying to say that while I agree that the system is stupid, if you don't tip on principle, you're in the minority and probably gonna catch some for it.

It's pretty much the same as any job, always gotta find things to complain about. Only difference is that people who don't work for tips still like complaining about it :p
