That said, I work as a delivery driver, and have for 2.5 years now. YES, I agree the tipping system is stupid. THAT SAID, every culture has their own norms and whatnot, and tipping happens to be one of ours. I make $5/hour before taxes, thats all the people I work for pay me, and the rest is tips. There's no delivery charge, and I get no compensation for gas, wear+tear on my car, etc. So, if someone doesn't tip, I am paying for the gas to get that person their food, and making under minimum wage to do so. Its ing retarded, but the prices of the food are set with that in mind, if tipping wasn't customary the prices would without a doubt be higher. This system saves the company money as it shifts the cost to the customer. However, it ing sucks that some people do not understand the unstated but assumed extra cost in the price of all goods delivered. |

Dude wtf! Two weeks ago I had a delivery to pufton, definitively stoned and good looking chick answers the door and the pleasant smell of marijuana wafts out, check the card and she puts a 2 dollar tip on the credit card, then also hands me a single folded up and mumbles something that sounded like her saying there was weed in there. wouldn't be that unlikely, and why else would she give me an extra single, folded up, aside from the tip on the credit card. anyways, i'm psyched. as she shuts the door i'm turning around and open the bill, nothing. wtf :wtf:
and like, it was well lit and a sidewalk right there so i know i didn't drop it, but yeah. i think she was too stoned to remember to give me the weed she meant to :p |

hah between tips and one dude i used to work with bumming cigs off me at work and hooking me up with weed, i had a modest but steady supply for about a year without paying a dime for it :p
kinda glad too cause in theory i could see myself becoming a stoner but i never go out of my way to get it, if it falls in my lap then sure, but otherwise, i can do without just fine. |

| I think this thread and everyone before it makes it clear that how much if at all to tip is a very localised thing. Each nationality seems to have its own way to go about it. In the UK it seems fairly similar to the aussi way, whereby if you have had ok service its upto the person to tip but on the whole you will only tip if you have had excellent service which in my opinion is about right. The American way of tipping being basically part of their wages is utter bollocks. The company they work for should be paying more if thats the case, they shouldn't have to rely on the publics generosity to pay their staff a reasonable amount because thats just ludicrous |

Our local place has minimum order of £10 (used to be £8 but the fuel prices have gone up 20% in the last year alone, and probably 50% over 3/4 years) and when we order, we usually surpass that, mostly cos my brother orders a huge pizza. We tip the driver a bit, usually when it's come quick (sometimes 15 mins from ordering it'll turn up) and if they're cheerful & nice. won't be a huge tip, just something to say thanks.

I used to deliver pizzas.
The delivery fee is not a tip. The driver doesn't see any of that. It's complete horse that every pizza chain added on to screw the customer out of a few more dollars and over the pizza driver.
And for the record, not tipping the driver is a great way to get your next pizza either cold, late as , or with some extra toppings. I'm serious when I say this, do NOT with pizza delivery drivers.
If you don't want to tip the driver, don't order delivery. Go get the ing pizza. |

I'm still at uni, with this semester and the next left before I can move into a full time job. You think I'm that stupid to stay in Hospitality forever? that right off, it would be terrible as a full time job.
Oh and when it comes to tipping and foreigners, Yanks are great. Most Yanks on holiday tip and they tip well, so do the Canucks. As for the Brazilians, you. you all. |

tipping is up to the customer. Does not matter how good or bad the service was. It is a show of generosity.
I valet park cars as a side job and out of a couple hundred cars I park(over a couple days) I will get a stiff. So mathematically that is less that 1%. Do I cry? Maybe at the moment in time when I get stiffed but when I look back I realize
1. some people are cheap and some are not
2. Maybe I did a bad job
3. Maybe they had no cash and felt bad saying so
4. Had a big bill and did not want to break it
Well this list can go on and on so why worry in the end when I already know I will lose less than 1% of tips anyhow.
Now I don't think all those things I just think in my mind no tip = scumbag but then the next car comes and its back to square one
