I've always been a great speller and constantly harass people who spell words wrong.
Then last year I relized I had been spelling definitely wrong for possibly all my life. I refused to believe it wasn't "definately" until I checked several sources. |

The word recommend gets me sometimes, and inquire/enquire.
I'm usually pretty good at spelling though... (get ready for nerd moment in 3... 2... 1...)
In elementary school they called me the 'walking dictionary'. LOL! I've just always been good with languages, I guess.

And personally, I wouldn't rely on a spellchecker or recommend relying on one to anyone else. It doesn't pick up on everything and also sometimes corrects you incorrectly. For example, if you are in Canada and it corrects your word with the American spelling. Or in another instance, if you have a misspelled word, the spellchecker might suggest what it thinks to be the closest match when it's actually not the right word at all. Most word processors will pick our Canadian spelling up as being wrong, as they are set up to recognize American spelling. There are exceptions, of course, such as Corel WordPerfect; since it is Canadian-made I wouldn't think that this would be as much of an issue. Also, spellcheckers don't take into consideration that depending on what you're writing or who you're writing for, you may come across different 'conventions'. That means, basically, that companies and/or organizations may have their own way they prefer to spell certain words. There's a lot of other little things I could mention, but I won't bother to on here. :)
And although most of my posts don't reflect it, I took a (partial) course in Professional Editing and Proofreading. It doesn't mean I'm infallible by any means, I screw these things up all the time. But also I don't worry about most of that here anyway... if I need to write an essay for a class or edit/proofread something for somebody I'll do it right, otherwise I'm not worried about nitpicking every little thing all the time.
I used to have a really annoying habit though of pointing out people's spelling and/or grammatical errors all the time, but I don't do that anymore. I couldn't help myself though, lol. Apparently now I can. It's not good to be too nitpicky. :D
I see spelling and grammatical errors all the time though, and it can really get to me. Like, when it's on a business sign... I mean, if you're going to pay for something to be printed, why not make sure that it's at least spelled right. >.< Jeez... lol... come on, people. I swear, it's the bane of my life. Lol! :crazy:

Back when I was studying criminal justice and on a 'ride along' with a cop, he asked me how to spell the word 'sat'. I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. I told him how to spell it, and he didn't believe me. Looked it up in the massive hardcover dictionary he had in his back seat.
I you not.
How did they give a guy who cant put 3 letters together a gun?? Every other cop I ran into after also couldnt spell to save their lives. Pathetic. |

Lol, I actually own it. It's a pretty good read, I thought it was amusing. I'm still trying to decide whether to use the stickers that came with it or not though... :D |
