IF anything, our standard of living is significantly increased as manhattanites. To me it's been quite a relief to evacuate the city, to step out into the country and be isolated because frankly, I feel desensitized by living in manhattan. It's too much..I took too much..too much man too much.

my costs have gone up but i basically live the same life i did before. i don't need much to make me happy :) and i'm not a conformist. i don't have to go to the "hippest" restaurants or wear overpriced stuff to fit in. although i can't wait to move away from the city in a couple years so i can have a yard and washer/dryer IN my home.

Manhattan is overrated as a place to live IMO.

it's pricier :clown:

edit: I drank here with some friends this weekend and it was $13 for a bottle of Heineken

Luckily my friend insisted that he pay for my 2 bottles :gsmile:

You can still party in Manhattan while living in the surrounding areas and saving some cash ;)

People in Atlanta think I'm crazy for wanting a yard and living away from downtown. They simply don't understand because that's what living NYC does to a person. What a breathe of fresh air it is to be away from the concrete jungle, not share a wall with some other people, and to hear nothing but birds chirping. Noisy birds.

This is especially true if you grew up there. as kid nyce told me, it makes you jaded.

I don't look at it as NYC "making" you anything. Let's face it, city life is not for everyone. Some people, like you, enjoy open spaces and gardening and whatnot. I'm guessing you had a brief sojourn in NYC which was never really justified for your personality and then decided to get back to your "true self."

But other people are really made for urban life. That you're not one of them doesn't mean they don't exist. I spent 3 years in a very urban setting and then relocated to a more suburban, less cosmopolitan area, and immediately felt depressed and uncomfortable.

so?? :conf: that doesn't mean anything.

You can be born into an X family and feel like you're totally not part of it. You can be part of some social/religious class or demographic, and yet resent it and try to leave it for some other social group.

Same with lifestyles.
