HELP!!!! the three of us are trying to get an apartment and we have reached a standstill because of this situation. None of us can agree, and everyone feels morally vindicated in their stance.
heres the situation
three people are moving into an apartment. one couple and the best friend of the girl. the apartment is 2 bedrooms, with both rooms being identical in size. if the rent was 1500p/m and the bills were a total of 300p/m, how much does each person pay? none of us have quite a bit of money. Everyone is scraping by as is.
sorry to dump this here, but i need peoples opinions (hopefully to justify my own :P ) |

| Wouldn't you just divide it by 3? 600/mo each. I don't see how else it could be done. |

| maybe the two sharing a room could pay 60% & the person getting their own room 40%.... its a hard pie to slice... utilities should be split up equally ... |

| yeah that's a tough one. you'd think it would be 50-50 since it's a 2 bedroom. the 60-40 split seems like a good compromise. but what if the other girl has her bf move it with her? |

I'm inclined to agree with this.
by equally, do you mean 3 ways? I would think so. |

The single person should pay more as they are getting more square footage for themselves. Split it 50/50 and then the couple splits their 50% 50/50.
That being said....I think everyone should just pay a third. |

Hmm... That is a tough one.
The utilities should be split 3 ways as you will all be using those equally.
I would then divide the rent in half... this would represent bedroom space vs. common living space. This will give you 2 fees.
The common space should be split 3 ways.... $750/3 = $250.
Then the bedroom space would be split in 2 - 50% for each bedroom.
So rent would be as follows....
$625 - person who is alone in bedroom
$437.50/person for the 2 sharing.
I don't think it should be an even 50/50 split because she is not getting an entire 50% of the apartment to herself only a bedroom.
That's my 2 cents... it does equal out to about 60/40. (just the long way to get there) |

Yes, by equal I meant each should pay 1/3 of the total utilities... |

lol. the only way to do it is equally 3 ways.
why would the person staying alone pay more? that's just silly. you share the other areas equally. kitchen, living room, bathroom.
just because they get their own room doesn't mean they pay more. you choose to live in the same room as boyfriend and actually it's a bonus that you have a boyfriend there. |
