i'm with mezzir. totally agree w/ the music thing. and lost in translation had lots of scenes with hardly any music or dialogue at all, which i think played an important role of portraying life in japan and what the characters were going through.
like the first few scenes of bill murray showing up to the hotel and being in the elevator...then he's in the pool and sees the water aerobics class...he's just taking everything in.
also, when he is waiting for her while she's in the ER...not a lot of dialogue there either. lost in translation relied a lot on the "background" stuff.
in garden state it's like every "epic" moment had to be accompanied by some great song. it was kinda cheesey and overdone. |

| It wasn't really that much, I'm just saying that without the music holding it together the plot and evreything would seem a bit far-reaching, but mostly how it was partly autobiographical. idk. i can't really pinpoint it, but as much as i liked the movie, knowing it was written and directed by zach braff and knowing it was partly autobiographical, the entire movie just gave me the feeling that he thought he was kinda a big deal. |

"Lost in Translation" = 
Easily Wes Anderson's worst and most pretentious film (even for him, which is a stretch).

I rather like Garden State, and with regard to the "overacting" comment - anyone who likes Natalie Portman should be used to it by now. She's a horrible actress.
Thankfully, acting really had little to nothing to do with Garden State as it was quite obviously (at least to me) relying on people being sold on the ed up story, and not some kind of academy award winning acting.
Also, how was Garden State supposed to be autobiographical? I can't seem to find anything to that effect. |

What a floppy douche. The film was as big a up as Braff's nose in comparison to Kane. |

who gives a flying about the emotion? garden state was great coz it was ing funny.
name me a modern movie that doesn't get the emotion from the music. that's just how they all work.
and bill murray is one of the test actors ever. if he's in a film, there's a 99% probability it will suck arse. |
