i really don't understand the strong feelings against nbc and the tape delay. depending on the location of the Games there will be tape delays. if i'm not really a fan of a particular sport no way i'm going to watch a stream in the middle of the day or will i stay up until 2am on a weekday to watch it.
if trampoline and diving weren't on primetime chances are close to zero i wouldn't watch. also the ioc did a decent job trying to get some sports live (like swimming or beach volleyball) so north americans could watch live. that shows effort to appease the broadcast partners. either way i have no problem with nbc and if i remember correctly i like their telecast of the torino Games over cbs' in lillehammer...taking new technology out of the question and purely anchors and coverage |
the hockey tourney in vancouver will be awesome. I doubt nbc will show too much of that. |

no, but they'll take commercial breaks at inopportune moments during play because there're no real stoppages in the olympics (they did this in 2002 and 2006). |

it is ok if other countries have other ways of raising children. What is right to you may not be ok to someone else on the other side of the globe. Asians in general are pushed hard yes, but look at the results it gets. I am not only talking about sports here. |
The kids are selected and forced into some activity whether they want to or not because they seem to fit the "profile". Does that seem proper? |

the best was the swimming relay that the announcer said he was crunching numbers for two weeks and there was no way the US would win. it was hilarious that:
1. wtf numbers are you crunching?
2. two weeks? are you f'n serious? it's a swimming race not a trip to the moon
3. the US actually won |
lol yeah that announcer is a douche and is why we still hold sporting events, how many times has the person or team who didn't have a chance at winning upset the favorite? NY Giants anyone? |

nbc and the nhl share advertising dollars during the season. nbc should want to generate interest in the sport so that when the olympics are over more people are interested in the sport and they get more money. that is purely my assumption but it makes perfect sense to me. i wish i could go to that...i love olympic hockey |

funny, when a chinese athlete has won, all i have seen were smiles on their faces. I understand asian culture a little, and you have to understand that these activities have been a part of the culture for centuries. Who are you to say your way of life is better than theirs.
Oh my god a country is breeding and preparing children to be successful. Call in the marines and have them drop pot and xboxes to change that so they are unmotivated.
china is not america.
the rest of the world is not america.
it is ok. |

well even the announcers have said that many of the chinese gymnists have tried to quit and the government did not allow it. That's where the problem is dude. Of course when u win a medal in the Olympics your going to break a smile  |

hockey does have stoppages alloted in the international rules ever since nhl and players from other pro leagues have become eligible to play. In Canada they would lynch the producer if they missed one second of play. |

scenerio in the usa.
kid: i want to quit school
parent: ok, it is fair that i don't push you, i don't want to be a nazi.
like come on man.
in general asian children are raised very well and acheive much success due to all the pushing they receive. If anything, i think our children could benefit from an approach like this and make society a better place instead of being pregnant with a drug habit at 14. |

considering the large majority of these medalists were probably very poor, their parents pushing them to do it was a GOOD thing. especially since their so young and really don't know anything about anything. would they rather be some kid working in a factory for decades or perhaps getting a decent chance in becoming famous and rich as well as learning discipline and the meaning of hard work?
i can only speak for taiwanese people but the parents generally push their children to study and learn an instrument. is that really a bad thing? I have a cousin that says he hated it when he was younger but appreciated the decision when he got older.
he's damn good at playing the piano.
I suck @ instruments :haha: |

Theres a big difference between your parents making u participate in an activity vs the Government forcing u too. If they quit they go after your family and take away what they have, punish you and them, etc. You 2 completely miss the point. |
