thats the other thing- i learned way more about the storyline from reading OTHER books and discussing it with other nerds. i wish tolkien had spelled out more in LOTR instead of how green the trees were :p i would have liked more info on gandalf for instance. having an appreciation for the backstory makes the entire world much better :) |

ok I see your point i guess lotr is very much about detail and that was his way of constructing middle earth . But dude the guy went on like 20 pages with freackin tom bombadill , i was about to slam the book against my wall. |

But why does the reader need that? I think enough information was provided through the thoughts/musings of the hobbits...and I personally enjoyed the air of wonder/enigma about him.

Im actually cool with that, also with all the elfish ...
My only concer with the third book is that is called the RETURN OF THE King .... I think this title tells you all the story by anticipation ,
better title " THE WAR OF THE RING":) |

but i know i can just skip that . but skipping paragraphs of (green) text is a little harder to do without missing stuff ;)

well, he was the only interesting character for me. i found everyone else to be rather two-dimensional tbh. i wanted to know more about the mayer and what their role in the world was etc. |
