I once hypothesized that you would find more conservatives among fantasy than sci-fi authors, as fantasy usually contains more low technology environments and "traditional" sexual roles and notions of honor, valor, and so on. Sci-fi is often about pushing the envelope in many different senses -- with regard to identity, personality, technology, morality, social norms -- making it more attractive to liberals and libertarians.
I have no idea if all that's true, though. Just a guess. |

huh. that's a fascinating POV.
i prefer fantasy simply because scifi often gets too involved with the futuristic component of the narrative. ie they have to explain what the superduper piece of tech is, whereas i know what an elf or a mage or a castle does/looks like. |
