I never skip a chance to one up someone in a battle of wits. |
Eh, that wasn't exactly a battle of wits, that was me exploding at the "you don't vote, you can't complain" comment which I not only thought was strange coming from you, but apparently you say you misrepresented some other idea and worded it poorly. You just exploded back. That alone didn't do it, it was the accusation of racism towards Shakka, which made the combination of some of your posts come off as really self righteous and judgmental. Had it not been for that, I wouldn't have had much of a reaction at all. I'm not fond of illogical self righteous stances.

I didn't necessarily admit the absurdity of my comment so much as my mistake for not clarifying because of morons like you ready to misinterpret. I had a lot more. I was going to throw in something about shoving an Obama shaped dildo up your ass |
I didn't know they made those, thanks for the information even though it's of no use to me. You learn new something every day I guess.

Like you said, you don't owe me an explanation so no need to give one now.

I do however stand by my racist comment. Shakka hates all the smilies because they don't look like him. Didn't you see his post saying he won't vote for Obama because of his big ears? Ridiculous I tell you! Just ridiculous!! |
I still think that was uncalled for, and it pissed me off leading to a reaction that was probably sorta uncalled for too and not well thought out. |

Biden has actually disagreed with Obama publicly on a few issues... which in all honesty, is what I'd rather have in a VP... someone willing to take him on rather than suckle from his teat. |
hey is this where all the cool kids hang. :)
agreed 100% - the VP and P are not necessarily "supposed to" agree on everything.. |

I'm sure you're not the only one wondering that right now. Romney would have been an ideal guy to have on the ticket in this economic climate. You could see the rationale for picking Palin at the time, but did they honestly not think that her complete lack of political nous was just not going to become an issue during the campaign? Did they hope that they could just put her up on the stage next to McCain, completely deny the media any unscripted access to her, and just hope that women and evangelicals were stupid enough to fall for it? Man, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that decision-making process... |
it seemed like a good idea, at the time? :clown: |

The sad thing is, women and evangelicals WILL fall for it and they will be voting for Mccain/Palin in droves simply because she is on the ticket. I've been watching C-span every day and you wouldn't believe the number of people calling in in support of Palin..saying unbelievable things like "I'm voting for her because she's a mom. She knows how hard it is." It is truly sick that on such an important decision, people can take a shallow view that says "aww...so what if she doesn't know much about international politics? She's a good mother and a good Christian. She seems like a nice person that I can relate to, so she gets my vote."
I swear, every time the discussion is on Palin the number of republican callers expressing this view is at least 50%. It was the same with Bush v Gore. Many people voted Bush because he seemed "like a normal guy you can have a drink with". It's terrifying that such a huge part of our country is so anti-intellectual and willing to follow people like Bush/Palin off a cliff simply because they seem like "regular people". |

"The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?""
| quote: | Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin.
The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as “disastrous.” One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, “What are we going to do?” The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is “clueless.” ~Ed Schultz
Six days to the VP debate, that is. Add this report from Schultz to the first call for Palin to step down from the ticket from a former supporter, and you have the makings of total disaster for the McCain campaign in this next week. The word disaster was honestly the first that came to mind when I heard the VP announcement as I was driving back to Chicago. I remember saying, to no one in particular in my car, “Total disaster.” Because I don’t want McCain to win, I wasn’t concerned that choosing Palin was a disaster for his chances, but I nonetheless felt a sense of wonder about it in the way that insane, futile attacks on fortified positions might inspire a certain strange admiration. I wondered at the time, “What could they have been thinking?” Of course, they had been thinking, “Mac wants Lieberman, which is even more insane, so let’s settle for the merely deranged.” Now they are paying the price.
After the Republican convention, I joked that the convention theme was, “Can we have a mulligan?” It seems to me that the McCain camp would very much like a do-over on the VP selection, but they know that if they dump Palin now it will definitely be over. If he dropped her now, or if she resigned for whatever reason, the combination of media triumphalism (the narrative would be, “so much for experience and judgement!”), liberal Schadenfreude and conservative despair would be so great that McCain wouldn’t stand a chance. Even though his result is now more likely to end up resembling Dole’s rather than, say, a respectable Ford-like defeat, he will have to trudge on and accept whatever happens. He might even earn some grudging respect late in the day; perhaps some generous Obama supporters will liken his campaign to the charge of the Light Brigade. He is, after all, so very concerned about Sevastopol, as he reminded us tonight. The entire Palin episode has been like some drunken bacchanalia that gave way to a terrified awakening several weeks too late. When her critics were painting her as a new Eagleton, her supporters were laughing at them as lunatics filled with hate, and now they are beginning to think that the haters may have been onto something. The GOP is experiencing self-immolation, and I can’t say that I am very bothered by that.

I'm really going to stab my eyes out with a hot poker the next time I hear that God ing aweful voice of hers, especially when you "spice" it up with a dash of vindictiveness and a splash of uneducated vitriol.
Sadly, however, I can also see this coming, especially if Biden trips over his tongue and our darn "librul" media plays a few "gotcha" moments on him over and over as they tend to do right now.
But again I ask, where's the media coverage of her witchhunt pastor? You couldn't stop the media tripping over themselves for over 2 months with Obama's pastor. Hell a nuke could have gone off and they would have pushed that behind the Wright Controversy bull. |

yeah, I don't know on that one Lebez.... not with zingers like this one fresh in my mind:| quote: | "It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America. Where—where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to—to our state."

| quote: | Taibbi says Palin a symbol of everything wrong with modern US
In the latest (Oct. 2) issue of Rolling Stone, on sale now but not yet available online, writer Matt Taibbi calls out the American electorate in a major new piece called 'The Lies of Sarah Palin.' A snippet:
"Here's the thing about Americans. You can send their kids off by the thousands to get their balls blown off in foreign lands for no reason at all, saddle them with billions in debt year after congressional year while they spend their winters cheerfully watching game shows and football, pull the rug out from under their mortgages, and leave them living off their credit cards and their Wal-Mart salaries while you move their jobs to China and Bangalore.
"And none of it matters, so long as you remember a few months before Election Day to offer them a two-bit caricature culled from some cutting-room-floor episode of Roseanne as part of your presidential ticket. And if she's a good enough likeness of a loudmouthed Middle American archetype, as Sarah Palin is, John Q. Public will drop his giant sized bag of Doritos in gratitude, wipe the sizzlin' picante dust from his lips and rush to the booth to vote for her. Not because it makes sense, or because it has a chance of improving his life or anyone else's, but simply because it appeals to the low-humming narcissism that substitutes for his personality, because that image on TV reminds him of the mean brainless slob he sees in the mirror every morning.
"Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she's a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she's the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV – and this country is going to eat her up, cheering every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation."

Can we ban using as sources unknown blogs authored by some guy in a dark basement? I digress.
With everything happening around Palin now that the fervor is over, I'd really like to hear from the people that expressed enthusiasm in the beginning. Q, Shakka? After these interviews I'd thoroughly enjoy hearing excuses on how she could possibly be considered qualified, when many in the conservative circle are worried. Given a second chance with Couric on the "next to Russia" argument, not only does she defend the view but expands on it!
Seriously, these Palin threads are conspicuously absent of her supporters defending her.
I actually might like the idea of Vice President Palin. If McCain kicks the bucket shes most certainly going to have to step aside and resign. Then it's the speaker of the house, which by any measure should be a Democrat! Yay President Pelosi! |
