The advantage of the PS3 having bluray capabilities goes beyond just being able to watch movies, it allows the developers to create richer and more elaborate worlds, along with far better cut screens and mini movies throughout the game. That being said, XBOX is coming out with an external bluray adapter soon for like $150-$200. I've also been told that gaming companies haven't yet "tapped" into using the PS3 to it's full potential yet, which excites me to see what the new year brings. If you do go with the PS3, I'd get the 60G at least because you can then play PS2 and PS1 games on it, the 40G (cheapest) doesn't have backwards compatability. Having both consoles in the house, if I were to pick between the two I'd go with the PS3, both platforms are so close with the pros and cons that the fact that Sony has GT5 is the deciding factor for me.

PS3. why would you even think about a microsoft product lol. well. most people on here will tell you to go that route for some reason. But trust me PS3 is an all around BETTER product and you wont regret it.

RPGs these days suck no matter what system you get them for.

Whoa, hang on there... Oblivion? Fallout? Mass Effect? They may play differently, but they are still RPGs and, quite frankly, some of the most brilliant ones ever made. They got Seth Green to do some of the voice acting in the last one, how awesome is that? And they definitely did not have these titles on the SNES and PS1.

Of course these games are only great on PC; the Console versions are all a little iffy even though they came out first in some cases. But by virtue of that, if you want a console, you should go with the 360 because it's the closest relative to the PC platform, but a whole pantload cheaper than a gaming rig.

Because it's a good product? And if the corporation that designed it is part of your equation, then wouldn't Sony be an even worse choice?

They said the same about PS2. By the time anyone was "tapping", the PS3 was already out. It's comforting information for somebody who already owns one, but hardly a selling point for a prospective buyer.

i wouldn't go as far to say that newer western RPGs like those "suck", but they definitely lack what JRPGs on SNES and PS1 had. they're definitely more free and immersive but sometimes too open-ended, and the characters, stories, music etc. are simple and boring... it's nice that nintendo DS has some good ones, just wish there were some more original games instead of remakes though :P

Microsoft is -not- coming out with a BluRay drive for XB360.

The fact PS3 has a BluRay does not impact my purchasing decision. Industry analysts pretty much all agree that movies, games and content is all moving to digital download. BluRay is exected to not have a very long shelf life (at least compared to CD or even DVD).

I'm not a big game player, but think I would like the media download capabilities of either system.

Even without the recent Netflix deal (12000 movies for rent) Xbox Experience has movies from all major studios (less SPE), television shows, video games from all major publishers plus a video game community where people can create their own and make them available for play.

I'm not sure about PSN. Anybody have user experience information on PSN for movies, new games, tv shows, music, etc?
