Please tell me you beat him.
Working in the consulting world, and now in the investment world, I had and still have the privalege of hearing some of the most moronic imaginable. I'll do my best to make a list of today's assinine malapropisms for a report tonight.
Oh, & back to "leverage", I once tore apart my sandwich and slapped someone in the face ever-so-gently with a piece of mortadella for using the term in a similar context to the one above. |

People from the IT/Consulting will appreciate this.
Team A architect: We have a web service. However, in order to fix bugs in the future we may have to change the WSDL. Everybody cool with that?
Team B architect: What? WSDL change? Well, please understand that even a spelling fix in one field inside a WSDL results in 5 days worth of work for our team.

I could not think of a more appropriate response to something like that. |

| Well, I agree there are some words that are ridiculous and are over used, but I think business English is more appropriate than using casual conversation. If you are working with high profile people, you can't talk to them like they are buddies. I think some of the phrases and words just show professionalism. Also, there is nothing wrong with using semi-colons or colons, if they are used correctly in a sentence, IMO. |

I agree with that - I use them on consistent basis in my work emails |

So do I. I took a few business writing classes as part of my Journalism and English major at my university, and some punctuation rules differ from standard English. |
