Year after year we are in Mtl for this party, and year after year, the organization (or total lack of) makes it a bigger and bigger pain. Bottlenecking a mass of people into a single point of entry was bound to create problems, and I saw quite a few altercations from frustrated partygoers who were made to wait for so long. I've been to parties and festivals in many places, in many countries. This one in Montreal was by far the worst. Considering the price of admission, this is shameful. Kind of a strange thing, as two years ago and prior, lines and entry was fluid and quick. The security search this time, at least for me, was very thorough. The guy went so far as to stick his fingers in all sorts of crevices and places that I won't mention. Must have enjoyed his job. All it did was add to the already elongated entry time, and lo-and-behold, substance use was everywhere I looked.
The decorations were fairly standard fare, nothing to write home about.
The main screen behind the stage, in combination with the lighting was executed very well. Bright, fluid videos, and excellent choreography to the music. It was a spectacle worth seeing, and certainly something that the average partygoer will seldom see in Canada, outside of Montreal.
Music was pretty good. As mentioned in previous posts, Tiesto started off nice and proggy, and really got the crowd moving. As the set progressed, moved on to a proper trance sound. All in all, the set was good, but certainly not his best work. A few classics (some so old that they really surprised me when I heard them) were thrown out there, to a particularily great reception. There were a few outstanding moments where the entire stadium literally erupted. It was a great experience to be a part of it. Closer to the end of his set, it really seemed to slow down however. People were still eating it all up, and one could certainly not complain at the overall vibe, which was top notch all evening long, but certainly it dropped off and people were not moving nearly as much. Kind of an anti-climactic finish, but don't take that that as a complaint.
Outside of the total fiasco of entry, a truly great night. |

I would have to agree with Louis. Sick show...the setup was intense just like his in-concert dvds (almost)...I was expecting another regular bal en blanc/resolution/sensation setup....but dam when i got in annd saw that screen with the lighting that came out of it wow did it ever put a smile on my face. When tiesto came on the crowd just went nuts and from there the next 5 hours were just intense. I would say (sticking to his own classix) In the dark, Lethal Industry and Silence were sick..other traxx (cant remember named) were sick also..i was actually happy that he didnt play traffic so fe dup of it) but was really disapointed that he didnt play just be :(
...the crowd was really interactive and so was tiesto..everytime he would grab the mic wow the crowd screaming made me deaf. Especially on the screen when it would say happy new years or make some noise...ok again sick party..so far the sickest setup i have seen at a big event in montreal..the crowd was very interactive but one big problem..man there were some young ppl in there...this kid next to me (all the way in the front) looked like he was 16..i had to ask him his age..:/ and some people coming in their with shirts/blazers..kind of puzzled me out.. i liked the fact that a whole group of kids in front of us got carded and rejected after the checks :)..that should teach those young kids to stay home and be where they are supposed to be (bed)
one thing was lacking..LAZERS! my god if tiesto only had what roger sanchez had at sensation 2007 (lil lazer) even that would have been enough...
In conclusion to my lil minny essay..those who though that it would suck and decided not to show up or thought it was too expensive..well u missed out i guess :) |
wow,i totally agree with what u said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i really wanted to hear just be and some more classics as well.LAZERS!!!
i had a vip,but didn't even bother going to the vip section.front row was the !!although i saw that on the left vip side,it was packed with girls lol
waiting time was 15 min for vip and my friend waited 5 min for regular tickets......the time was 10h30
i did not enjoy adam k's set,not my cup of tea, made me fall asleep.Eh crazy frog anybody????????????
everybody was going crazy, like a countdown before tiesto comes on stage
and suprise to c a bunch of people partying sober like me(Crazy flag guy and his friends)
!!which is a cool thing because i don't like it when too many zombies are around me. |

lemme get this straight.. did he change gloves for each and every person there? It's a ridiculous question but a necessary one, cause the same thing happened at Black and Blue and now my nuts are itchy :p :nervous: |

inside or outside the pants? Though I'm kinda chuckling writing this, it is a notable health hazard, believe it or not. |

what time did you arrive to Bell and was this VIP or reg??
looks like Bal en Blanc may be a headache again.. |
I arrived at 11h30, and i came in at 1h20...it was a regular tix.. but with all the experience i had at bell center, the entry is fast and the vip's are far from the dj booth..then you have a lot of place for sitting. So don't need to pay a extra 30$ for vip's. |

i have to agree with sandturk: WHERE WERE THE LAZERS?! the screen was ridiculous, and props to the tech guys, you did a sick job.
i had vip and didnt bother going on stage either. looked too cramped and i enjoy my space, which i surprisingly had up at the front! danced my ass off, loved hearing some of the more popular tiesto tracks (dance4life!) and very much enjoyed how his set progressed to more oldschool trance at the end.
my one MAJOR concern... why didn't they sell glowsticks?! especially since it was written explicitly on the ticket that it was forbidden to bring glowsticks from outside the venue, why didn't they sell any inside? i was very upset by that, cuz the sticks are an integral part of the edm scene.
the crowd was amazing, so much positive energy! ive been to a few events at the bell center and have never seen it packed like that! i was also especially surprised that so many people stayed after the main event was over. it warms my heart to see the trance community assembled and ringing in the new year together :) |
