oh, and british airways won't let me choose my seat until "24 hours before departure". if i don't get a window seat i will be pissed. so that's why i'll be online, picking the first window seat i even see on the screen, exactly 24 hours before my flight leaves!

If you get on 24hrs beforehand you'll be fine. I help family members and friends checkin T-24hrs to help them out and there are plenty of the best seats available at T-24....unless you're in Club World/First where the frequent flyers who can pre-assign seats usually snag them ahead of time.

Eh? I always try and pick a window seat I fly more like five or six times a month. I like looking out the window, always have my camera primed for something interesting (OK, less so on a transatlantic, esp from BOS where you're out across the water immediately). There are some amazing sights to see from 30,000ft...

Nope. All leisure travel, the only business trip I went on the company sent the group of us on a private jet. I wasn't complaining but it'd be nice to earn some frequent flyer miles off someone else's dime for once!

My family live 3800 miles away, my brother-in-law lives 2500 miles away and my wife and I enjoy jetting about besides our family obligations.

I love flying... $35 to Tokyo, round-trip, first class :gsmile:

The only thing I have a problem with in the airline process is the security scanning logistics. Between taking off your shoes, watch, belt, jacket and removing the laptop from your bag and keeping your ticket out for review, that's a lot of to try and manage. And that's pretty much just a standard person travelling, not a mother or father managing a small child or any other individual with extreme circumstances.

For people like me who are frequent travellers it's not a big deal. I have my little system down and it works. But for people who fly once or twice a year, it's traumatizing. And typically the security agents don't know how to help someone, they just know how to stand there and bark what they are supposed to bark. "KEEP YOUR TICKET OUT FOR REVIEW"

My only gripe about flying is the people who throw their carry on luggage in the overhead compartment before they are even close to their seat. Without even checking to see if they have room back by their row, they just throw it in an empty one at the front, so that by the time the front of the plane is being seated, those are filled and the ones in the back aren't. I've never had to really deal with it because I just set my backpack at my feet when I fly and never put it up top, but the selfishness of people just bothers the out of me sometimes.

cross country flights are easy.

try flying for 24 hours straight.

Otherwise:

Weigh you bag prior to flight
Any liquids (3oz or less) not in a small bag cannot go through...yogurt included.
Buy all food and drink AFTER security.
Buy first class if you don't want to deal with everyday people sitting around you.

Lastly.... suck it up princess.

seriously... as long as you know all of this stuff going in, it's really not a big deal at all.

or maybe i'm just one of the few people who tries to keep a cool head when traveling because being one more angry traveler isn't going to make anyone's life easier.

it took me 18 hours to get from my house in Milwaukee to my house in NY on Christmas Eve. i had one flight from Milwaukee to Detroit, 2 flights from Detroit to NY (the first one apparently couldn't land because of visibility, so we went back to Detroit), then finally arrived at JFK instead of the airport i was supposed to go to and had to wait until the next day to pick up my baggage.

rather than throw a little hissy fit like all of the other weary travelers that day, i decided to laugh and have fun and be extra nice to all the airport employees i had to deal with... because honestly one of the things i hate most in this world are stupid s yelling at people because they think they're the only person in the world.

I'd guess they are family of airline staff. They get some fairly ridiculous deals, but AFAIK it is space available, so if fare paying passengers turn up you're stuck wherever you are.

I know someone whose husband worked for BA and she went to India on a business trip with him. He was duty travel so had a confirmed seat each way, whereas she was just in whatever was available. On the way she flew First but on the way home there were no available seats and she was stuck in Mumbai for almost a week waiting for a free seat. Now she only travels on fare paying, confirmed tickets.

i love window seats... i'm a geography major, i love seeing things from above. aerial views are something you don't get to see a lot of so when i do, i take advantage. and also i love clouds. i'd rather look at clouds and aerial views of cities instead of annoying random strangers where you can see in any place at any time. the bathroom, if i have to go then what's the big deal about moving past them? i'm a small kid so it's not really an issue.

Xanax.....move closer to a ing airport? I live 45 minutes away from 2 different airports. I would drive 45 minutes rather than drive 7 hours. that.

Also, I never have any problems when flying. I always pack light, leave stuff at home that I really don't need, etc. I always get on the plane easy too. No hassles that all of you complain.

i am a little brown so i always get a finger or 2 in my ass.

Abercrombie
I was born in Algeria but never had issues at any customs because of it. Canadian Passports rule.

For the whiners who complain about flying coach... get a friend who works for an airline. Buddy passes ftw.
