flying is very easy and hassle-free from me, especially since I always fly Singapore Airlines and the airport here is very ing efficient and awesome with great shops and restaurants. Just got upgraded to first class last month flying from Singapore to Manila since my mom's a frequent traveler (for her job) and is a member of the business/first class club. Drinks overflowing, you could have practically all the best meals in the plane and you're being served too much that it begins to get annoying...haha. Of course, the legroom is great and you almost have a bed as a chair.
The only thing that really bothers me though, despite being economy/business or first class, is that I have real trouble sleeping on the plane since I always fall a sleep and then some stewardess wakes me up like 30 minutes later to serve my meal. :whip: |
hey man, i'm landing in singapore for 8 hours... didn't really plan to leave the airport, since from what i've read, there's plenty to keep me occupied there...
i was thinking of buying a mobile phone in singapore, is there a shop for sim free phones in the singapore airport?
any clue whether they stock philips phones (i really want a Xenium model)?
if not, any clue on a store close to the airport that stocks philips phones? |

Xanax.....move closer to a ing airport? I live 45 minutes away from 2 different airports. I would drive 45 minutes rather than drive 7 hours. that.
Also, I never have any problems when flying. I always pack light, leave stuff at home that I really don't need, etc. I always get on the plane easy too. No hassles that all of you complain. |
i only live 45 min from an airport. but its not just a 45 min drive. it is:
45 min drive to airport
30 min for check in of bags
30 min to get through security
60 min extra time you left in case security was a goat, traffic, etc
40 min flight to hub airport
60 min layover
50 min flight to final destination
30 min to walk to baggage claim and get bags
30 min to get rental car
you now have a grand total of 6 hours and 15 min invested in a trip that took me 8 hours to drive by car. for your hour and 15 min savings you paid 4+ times what gas cost me, you got to have your bags searched by the TSA idiots, you had to walk through an airport with no shoes on, and you got to deal with multiple annoying people sitting next to you in the airport and on the plane. plus you are paying $5+ a day to have your car parked in the garage at the airport.
and that is if all your flights were on time. any kind of delay and I'd be checked into my hotel while you are trying to find out from the gate agent when the your plane is actually going to take off |

I remember a time when flying was fun and I looked forward to travellung. Now it feels worse than taking a bus. I totally just got hosed. $15 for my bag and an extra $50 dollars for being 10lbs over :wtf:and its only $25 for a second bag up to 50lbs. s...I argued but lost.
Then god damn security makes me take off my sweatshirt when all I have on under is a small light under shirt. Might as well make me walk through partly naked. Then they make a big deal about my unopened mini sized yogurt and won't allow me to eat it. Lost that discussion as well. So dumb because its placed in a trash behind them so what does that really do? Nothing! Let me eat my damn breakfast. So forced to buy my breakfast and for security reasons unbenouced to me they aren't allowed to carry plastic forks but plastic knives are ok. I was told to make a spork from a spoon and knife which makes no sense Sitting in the middle :( with a kid behind me who loves to talk. Almost as bad as my trip when I woke up somewhere over the Midwest and some woman with a baby moved next to me and basically put her baby on my leg...
Basically preparing for the worst as I wait to get this cross country flight done with.

c0r version - I hate the airline industry.and everything that goes along with airline travel it is not enjoyable for ANYONE. |
the more you fly the better it becomes. i have gold status on continental so i have some pretty nice perks. I get to use the continental lounge before the flight (free liquor - i'm always wasted on flights), i get upgraded to first class about once every 3 or 4 flights (depending on when i book my flight i can increase my chances), and i am not subject to those stupid fees. |

wtf are you serious?! Where are you traveling?! When I went to Idaho last year I spent 2-3 hours total aside from flight time. I flew direct, packed the night before, and waited 15mins for bags. Waited 10 minutes for a car to pick me up and it was a 45min drive to the grandparents house.
When I went to Toronto, I had a 45 min drive to LAX. 15 minutes for bags, 10 minutes for car and I even had enough time to go and hang out with umair for a bit after I got to my hotel 45 minutes later! This is called planning. Sacramento is my hometown. I refuse to drive it. I can get there in 1.5hrs by plane and choose when I want to leave. I don't need to rent a car as I have tons of friends there. It is easy as pie. |

my flightplan:
tel aviv to zurich on el al (737-800) (2 hours layover)
zurich to singapore on singapore airlines (777-300er) (8 hours layover)
and singapore to melbourne on singapore airlines (777-300)
got myself aisle seats on all three, cause i couldn't order bulkheads in advance.
any tips on how to switch to bulkhead seats? i'm 6'3 |

At checkin ask to change. It usually works. Pay the extra $15 or whatever they charge if they ask. |

yes, but you are making a lot of assumptions there. like you can fly direct, and that you can choose to fly on low volume days/times, that people can pick you up from the airport, etc. if you are flying on business and have to fly early on monday morning and there are no direct flights or travel budget cuts require you to fly from an airport that isn't a hub you don't have the luxuries you are assuming. |

Agreed, but I have a good number airports.
Long Beach
San Diego
LAX
Burbank
Orange County
Ontario
I am sure I have either direct or maybe 1 change. And every one of these airports, at least relative to where I am usually living, are all no more than 1.5hrs away. Most are 45 mins or less away. |

i live 5 minutes from Newark Airport; i don't travel anything but Continental out of Newark. I usually pay extra to do so, but it's well worth the convenience and being treated well by an airline. fortunately, my company pays most of that, but when i travel for leisure i still fly continental.
the key to air travel is to consistently fly the same airline. budget travelers are treated like by airlines, loyal customers are treated very well by airlines. |
