^ yeah, I tuned into that masters race on Sunday for a bit then switched to MotoGP before this happened.

:(

That's two promising young guns dead this year (Joe Tandy being the other).

Sad.

RIP

Joe had dropped his racing career a couple years ago, he was now helping out his brother Nick by setting up a team for him in F3.

^ true, forgot about that. I just remember seeing a highlight reel of this kid who pretty much started his own team and started winning.

Sad loss for racing regardless.

i still can't get over that death, so unlucky
stren
and now Massa gets seriously injured in another freak accident :(
Closed cockpits will be on the discussion table

While there's no doubt that these latest deaths and Massa's injury are seriously unfortunate and tragic, I think that if motor racing becomes too sanitized, it will lose the excitement that is what made it the spectacle that it is today.

I was watching a brilliant feature on Sir Stirling Moss today who still races a historic Masserati OSCA at the age of 80, and he was saying that motor racing needs to be dangerous. Not reckless, or careless, but dangerous.

It's a tough call for sure, between legacy vs. evolution, safety vs. acceptable risk.

I think in this case with Massa, and with the case with Henry Surtees, these were freak accidents and nothing more. The loss of a life, especially a young and promising one is certainly nothing to take lightly, however, if safety was to be paramount above everything, we shouldn't be going motor racing in the first place.

OMFG.

Its all over the news. Did you guys here that Schumacher might replace Massa for the remainder of the season?
stren
BMW might pull out of F1
