Anti-gun person here. I also am one of the camp that believes that the second amendment is outdated and completely unnecessary, seeing as we're a bit past militias at this point....

If it's outdated why hasn't it been repealed? Oh, that's right it's in the Bill of Rights. Our entire Constitution is the protection the we have from the government infringing on our god given rights. I'm not dirty harry or rambo, but I enjoy going to the range and shooting with my friends. I don't carry even though I'm licensed. I keep them locked in the safe, and take them out when I'm going to the range. |

| I have a Benelli Nova 12ga next to my bed at home. Although a debate unto itself, does anyone have any recommendations for home defense loads? |

Thats a terrible argument, you're implying anything worth doing would be done already. Hasn't been repealed because of an extremely effective gun lobby. Also, why not keep your gun at the range if thats the only time you use it? |

why would you do that? if someone ever decided to break into your house it isn't going to do you any good at the range. |
do you need a slug barrel for the slugs you have? if not which slugs are they? do you worry about penetration with slugs? That is my only concern. I don't doubt that almost any shell that I put into a bad guy will knock him down at the various distances in my house, but I worry about penetration through the BG into another room and hitting a family member/loved one. There are some great videos on the internet of guys testing various loads for home defense using ballistic jelly and simulated walls (dry wall, framing, and insulation) but I am too lazy too look them up. |

On the topic of why do people collect them - My boyfriend collects them because he's a hunter. And what he kills, we eat. And for different kinds of hunting, it requires different kinds of guns. And yes, we have several handguns, but to practice our shooting and for protective reasons - not to kill people. And yes, we both have concealed weapons permits (which, ps, you have to take a class on shooting before you can have one), and yes, you DO have a wait period before you can just leave with a gun.
I don't have ninja skills, so if someone breaks into my house, I can't exactly throw a knife at them and hit them - nor would I seem scary with it either. However, when I come down the hall with a shotgun - and they hear the 'click-click', chances are that person is going to think twice about continuing with the break-in. |

Oh I know that, just trying to figure out what argument he was actually making, seemed like he was claiming shooting at the range as his reason for owning guns, not for personal safety. |

That's understandable. I've seen plenty of people who don't hunt and still collect guns, though. Weirds me out. |
