yes, i too have found that the only feasible way to protect my home is with a 50 cal sniper rifle. Not to mention its ease of transport for personal protection when I go shopping.

I suppose one advantage of the sniper or assault rifle is that when the crackhead has legged it with your DVD player you can still get him from the other end of the street.

Um, no. I don't think anyone would categorize a sniper, assault, or anti-material rifle as a personal defense weapon. Learn a little before you come off the cuff like that. Again, I don't keep firearms for personal defense. I would use them if necessary, but I bought mine because I enjoy recreational shooting. I'd love to own a 50 cal ,but unfortunately I'd probably need a second mortgage just to buy the ammo for it. lol

Everything you own, you have because it's allowed and you then choose to purchase it. Millions don't own guns because the have interest in them. Just like race cars, motorcycles, RV's, golf clubs, cdjs, if there is an activity you enjoy you buy the tools to enjoy such activity. I enjoy shooting therefore I own guns legally.

Well if that's the real reason why don't people say that? Are they embarassed?

your home is full of deadly weapons, isn't that obvious to you? Knives, baseball bats, candlesticks, a car, various chemical poisons, a length of rope, etc. I would venture to guess that my "deadly weapons" are more secured than some of the deadly weapons in your home.

None of those things were designed with the sole and intentional purpose of being a deadly weapon though. A gun in the hands of anyone, even more so somebody trained in how to use one, bestows upon its weilder a ruthless precision in destroying its target from a safe distance. Common houshold appliances grant no such thing. Yes, there are many things that can be used by people to kill others... but a length of rope has never been a danger to a tenth of your graduating class.

Remember when that man threw a shoe at Bush? Wouldn't that have been a completely different scenario had he had a gun instead of a shoe? Oh, but a shoe *could* kill somebody if you sat them still and beat them to death with it!

A tool, living up to its intended purpose, is merely a tool. Yes, its utility is often subject to that of its weilder, so in some responsible, moral sense, people kill people, etc. But a gun's purpose is not peaceful in the least, it is a tool designed to kill, and this function is what is of worry. Nobody really gives a if you can justify owning one because paper targets need to die.

rules when dealing with guns.

1.ALLWAYS think a gun is loaded
*80% of gun accidents happen because people think the gun was NOT loaded

2.Never point the gun at something or someone, who you don't want to hit
*because of a mecanical defect or wrong manipulation of the weapon, it can still fire!

3.Don't leave your finger on the trigger unless your crosshair(? don't know if it's correct) is pointed at the target!
*because you could fall or because of convulsion you could put around 20kg (with 1finger) on that trigger and that's far enough to release a bullet

4.be certain of your target and it's environment!
because of overpenetration(of the bullet) or ricochets, you could hit something that can explode or just simply hit innocent people
