i agree Barb....that was quite the review!!! I really do wish i had been around to see the B2b2b action that all of u that did stick around, are raving about. i was heartbroken when i read all the reviews on here from people that stayed until the end. It just wasn't a night that i stood a chance at lasting that late, UNLESS the music was blowing my mind consistently all the way through, which is what i was hoping would be the case. I was looking forward to giving Dubfire another chance, as i didn't enjoy him live last time he was at Guv... AND i was really hoping to hear MORE minimal techno overall. I haven't seen too many minimal techno Dj's to date (i think only Dubfire & Maetrik (who was FANTASTIC), so i was hoping that's what this night was going to be about. If it HAD been Dubfire playing in what was supposed to be his timeslot at 1am, there might have been a better transition between him and Squillace, vs. Squillace & Nic F, and my night might have been completely different. I have yet to witness an amazing Dubfire set, and i def. know he's capable.... so yeah, i'm sure i def. missed out by bailing out too early...off night.

WOW.

Almost as soon as I got there, I saw Fanciulli and Squillace step up to join Dubfire. As soon as I saw this, a huge smile appeared on my face as I knew I was about to witness magic.

The b2b2b set from these 3 was just one of those rare party experiences. They played a few tracks to warm up, and then just started letting it rip in true, classic “5am Guv Main Room Deep Dish” style. Squillace would come on and play a hard, bassy, heavy track. Fanciulli would then come on and just destroy the room with a massive, chuggy, clicky tech house stormer. Then Dubfire would play a big build, but generally brought things down a bit. However, past 6:30, Dubfire played a few of the druggiest ing tracks I think I've ever heard. In one of the last tracks he played, he kept EQing it so it sounded like a heart pumping, except the pumps of the heart were these warped bassy sounds. It's really hard to describe as I've never heard a track like that in my life, and was honestly astonished that I sounds like that existed in dance music.

The three of them continued on with this track-by-track volley, creating a deranged, heinous, druggy crescendo, to the point where I was literally walking around with my head in my hands, shaking my head in disbelief at what I was hearing. I must have walked up to at least 10 people, some of whom I knew, some of whom I didn't, asking, stupified, “How is this so good?!” It was just one of those rare experiences.

This party gets a near perfect 10 from me, and is in the top 3 Guv parties I've been to since I started going in 2002. It just really doesn't get much better than that.

Anyone who left before 5am really, really missed out on rare Guvernment magic and should be kicking themselves for it.

WOW U READ MY MIND :disbelief

DUBFIRE + DAVIDE SQUILLACE = CAN'T GET ANY BETTER

at one point the bass was busting my ear drum so bad Pett and I went and got ear plugs, which were only in my ears for 3 seconds because I hate earplugs. but the distortion was too much at times.

This distortion is what disappointed me, I couldn't properly hear the amazingness of the baseline fully. I only heard this at the back specifically.

pffft. Doesn't touch that party... not even close. There are a lot of parties that put a smile on my face the whole night.... but it takes a special one to give me a smile the entire night AND blow my mind while doing!

I'm waiting for a party to top that one.... Sasha came VERY close.

lol I remember you wouldn't stop talking about it! :D I missed out on part of Ferry's set cause it was awesome!

Speaking of glowsticks, lol

When I was sitting down taking a breather around 6-630am, this sketched out dude beside me asked me no short of 4 times (!!!!!) if i wanted a light show from him! LOL

He asked me the first time; I said no. 5 mins later, he asked me again (like as if i'd changed my mind or something); I said no. Then he asks me AGAIN abt 10 mins after that... I shake my head and so no once again again. This time i was thinking to myself 'WTF'. Its like he's so f*cked that he doent even remember asking me those prior 2 times. ... THEN... YUP! He asks me again! haha omg

I just looked at him, got up and went back to dancing! LOL. It was a sign for me to get moving again i told myself. lol

I should have done this. :(

I seriously felt like my ear drums were gonna explode at times around the middle of the night in there. Should have listened to Tara and went to get earplugs. (Jesus, i dont even know why i didnt lol)

Ill just be happy to have my ER-20s with me next time I'm out. Boy, did I sorely regret not having those with me on Sunday night!

Fantastic night! as far as crowds go this was probably the best night iv had at the guv ever.

Squillace played a good set. I wasnt expecting the mayhem he caused in the summer at CZ but he definitely exceeded my expectations in the main room. Some of the best tracks he played were probably when they were playing back to back around 6ishh. Tech house with a melodic twist, reminded me a bit of Lee Burridge's RA podcast. My first time hearing Squillace and dubfire together and they make an absolute crazy duo

Coming to Mr Fanciulli. The first 20 minutes were really slow. boring actually. After that he turned it on. His progression and flow were excellent but his track selection was not something i would remember. A lot of ppl here loved his set but somehow i didnt think he was that good. maybe he needed more time.

Ali was on fire. The moment he came on the place lifted. Does anybody have an id on his opening track? huge bassline. His set mostly compromised such tracks and not since Lawler's set in 2007 did i hear the main room sounding so good. he was definitely top dj of the night for me. Some of the tracks he played were just :whip: :whip: :whip:
never heard anything like them in the main room.

The 3 of them b2b was a treat, maybe they had a great time in TO and wanted to give us a present. whatever the reason they were awesome. everywhere i looked they were huge smiles. WAT A NIGHT!

Over the years as i have come to experience different forms of EDM iv realised what my dream party would be in Toronto. Squillace and Dubfire at Footwork for a 10 hour set.
  :tongue3 :tongue3
