trancension, are you saying that in NYC if the bartender tells you your drink is 13, and you give them a 20, they won't return your change? If so, that's crazy! Tell me it's not like that at Opera. I'll have to roll in there with a decent money roll = all 1's.

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a good tipper because I've spent lots of time working in the service industry. But I would want to eliminate any collateral expense for procuring a beverage.

Opera does it as well. I gave a bartender a $10 and a $5 for a $10 (watered down) drink. She literally disappeared afterward, and after 10 minutes of waiting for her to resurface I gave up.

I felt a little better later, though, when Bong ordered a drink from her, gave her exact change, and I handed her a quarter. :)

I mean, people will keep like a dollar without asking sometimes and I let that slide, but if they took 5, I would confront them. I guess I just don't understand why people can be allowed to decide for themselves if they get a tip. I understand that they can ignore you if you don't give them a tip, but I'm not going to fuel their rudeness. At a place like Opera, just go to another bar. I don't want anyone to think I'm a cheapskate, but I just can't justify wasting more of my money to someone who just hands me an already overpriced drink. I do give tips, but not to people who think it's their right to get one.

And ya, at Pacha I bought a red bull / vodka for $13. Gave the bartender a $20 and had to basically argue with her that I don't tip 50%. I tip 20% and round up in most cases. So I was going to tip $3. But after that , $1.

After telling that story to some NYC tranceaddicts, I was alerted to stories of them having the exact same situation arise. And then some people even said that they've had fraudulent charges done by the clubs on their credit/debit cards. The two places that came up in this little story telling thread were Pacha (where I have first hand experience it's true) and Webster's Hall.

I think this may just be why myself and a good portion of my friends are saying eff this, we're getting too old for this clubbing , we can patiently wait for these DJ's to show up at non-suck venues, or just not see them =P

Yep...I'm only 23 (not even quite yet) and I'm getting a little sick and tired of the club scene. I definitely have that "I'm too old to put up with this " feeling as well.

I already bought my ticket for Armin before this feeling really kicked in, or else I probably wouldn't be going to see him...and then after him...I think the only show I'm going to go to is Markus on April 23rd. After that, I'm probably done with the "scene."

You guys could just be going to the wrong parties. ;)

that's tough... definitely disturbing. you need to figure that when you start a tab, with all the commotion that goes on with the transactions for drinks, it's so easy for there to be inconsistencies.

i had that happen to me at a crowded bar, not even a club, where my tab seemed unusual. it was a huge pain in the ass to try and sort it out with the bar manager, and ultimately i had to eat a few drinks.

i suppose one solution is to try and be proactive as possible- take cash when you can, and take small denominations to eliminate the change factor.

I'm a laser trance kind of guy though.

I enjoy the small parties and change in music every now and then, but at the end of the day, I want to comatose off of some ecstasy, lasers and trance.

Oh ya.

Venue management likes to ruin this for me :(

I'm also a trance guy. It doesn't matter how much they charge for drinks, if the music isn't good to me I won't have fun. That's not an attack on you Sam, we just have different tastes. Not that into House/ Techno. I certainly wish some of the trance parties were smaller and more like some of the random techno parties that pass through, but unfortunately it doesn't happen.

I'm considering backing off on the shows also. It just isn't as exciting to go out anymore. Fighting the crowds and all that just isn't worth it sometimes. I mean, I'm looking forward to Armin, but not as much as I would have a year or so ago. If Markus was my last show for a while, I'm sure I could be content.

You know. Clubs are much like the food chain, it's either eat... or be eaten.. And the weak are always weeded out.. I'm not trying to make an insult on anyone's character, but from what I noticed the "trancey trance" guys most of the time have really pussified characters so people easily take advantage of that. If you guys knew wtf you were doing and acted like it, bartenders usually don't with you because they know better. Pretty much, man the up and wear your balls (at the very least when you go to a club) so people don't take advantage of you like that. Just a small tip for ya, didn't mean to offend anyone by this just trying to help.

In short: Don't be like this :nervous: when you walk in a club, but more like this :toocool: ... And know what your doing, or at least act like you know what your doing and people won't with you. It's a basic social power principle... That's my lesson for the day for you kids! Enjoy!

Good point as there are no smaller room events in ATL with trance. You only run into that kind of stuff at the gigantaclubs. Can't help you. :(
