Seconded.

I don't think there is a comparison to be made here.

I am back in NY monthly, scene is very poor when compared to 5 years ago, but Cielo, Pacha and Sulivan Room continue to be great spots.

I need to check out the Mark.

I was back at Pacha for Chus and Boris a few days ago. I like the dark and dirty sound that just does not seem to be played down here. Plus the seedy nature of Pacha is truly an afterhours event. Not a pre 2am affair.

Just my thoughts, as I still spend much of my time in NY.

PS-New Yorers don't go to Webster Hall no matter who is there. Leave that for the bridge and tunnel crowd...

I miss Exit, Crobar, Spirit, Arc, Halloweens at BED, and especially Centro Fly!

The scene in New York is far better and there is no comparison...

I'm just saying Opera isn't that bad of a club in retrospect to some of the "best mega clubs."

New York vs. Atlanta

6am vs. 3am
Lots of talent vs. Rare talent
Many clubs vs. A few clubs
Great sound systems vs. Static and distortion

New York still wins hands down, like I said a few times already in this thread though, my whole point was just to point out I have a new found respect for Opera's staff so to speak.

when's that show?

I hear a lot of complaining about the sound distortion. Would turning it down a bit help at all? Everytime I'm at Opera, the sound is right on the edge of being too loud. I'm not the biggest fan of really loud music. Probably stems from many years of coming home from concerts hearing nothing but static. I now wear ear plugs at concerts. At clubs though, it's not that loud, but still getting up there.

And Slow clapper, I think they were just hoping for Jaytech. Checked his myspace and it looks like he'll be too busy spinning in Bali to come here. Why is it random countries get more names than Atlanta, GA?

Opera is already quiet -- on all frequencies.

Seriously? I mean, I know it's not crazy loud as I said, but there's no way that's quiet. For example, sometimes when vocal songs are played, the voice sounds really high pitched because of the distortion and half the time I can't understand what they're saying. I don't know a whole lot about sound, but there's got to be a way to play live music without it killing people's ears. I actually read somewhere that people that go to clubs regularly experience hearing loss frequently. That's not what I want.

Distortion comes from peaking speakers beyond their limit. That doesn't mean you can hear the speakers loudly in the first place.

Digweed's sound relies a lot on basslines, and while I could actually HEAR the bass for once, I still could not FEEL it. The mids were almost non-existing. I could talk to people on the floor without screaming, and that isn't optimal sound. It reminded me of the lawn at Lakewood.

I wear plugs at all times. In fact, mine came with a free case that attaches to your key chain, so I never forget them. It's incredibly important to wear them in clubs simply because of the extremities of volume, not to mention the producers of dance music (usually) have maximized all frequencies.

The best system I've ever heard was at HOM, Charlotte, when I saw Lee Burridge last January. You could feel the bass, yet it was not overbearing. The hats and claps snapped, yet did not peak my eardrums. I don't know how they did that, but it was absolutely fantastic.

I look forward to Opera's new system, because I think that could really change my opinion on that club.

Opera is getting a new sound system? Yay :)

My mistake... they spoke of that on Lunar, not TA.

Mind clearing it up, Devin? I don't know the details, and the mods deleted the first half of the Digweed thread where people were talking about it.
