The sound system sounds overdriven, the bass is overpowering, and I think things would sound so much better if they just turned the volume down a bit. I could not hear any melodies, and the vocals sounded like screeching. During some songs I saw people put their hands over their ears because the sound was like nails on a chalkboard.

Since I could only hear the bass I got bored really quick and ended up checking my watch ever couple minutes until around 2am when me and my friends left.
PVD seemed like he was doing a pretty good job though. I also really liked the camera view so we could see what he was doing.
But anyways, I think Opera is going to loose customers over this sound system thing. When you go to a club the first time everything is new and cool. But after a while you just want to hear the music, and I think the current sound system will deter long time customers.
But as always thanks again to Liquified and Devin for consistently bringing out the big names to see us. I can't wait to see Sasha & Digweed! |
It was the same way at Rank 1. The last hour was almost unbearable. That was my first time at Opera and quite honestly really turned me off. If you are bringing in the top DJs, the sound system should be tuned properly...louder is not always better!...are you listening Liquified!?! This is obviously a problem since I am not the first one to mention it. |

I thought the situation had improved slightly at the last couple of shows I've attended, but I agree that the bass was awful this time, especially around the start of PVD's set. Later on I could actually hear some melodies clearly, but Opera seriously needs to correct its sound issue. And give us free glasses of water, but that's another issue.
Otherwise, it was an awesome set! I had a great time, but by 2:40am I was exhausted, and I didn't stay for the very end. One complaint (especially after ATB last week) is that PVD is pretty sedate and indifferent during his sets. Heh, looks like he's concentrating excessively; the guy needs to learn to multitask. His use of the keyboard live to play along with some tracks (can't remember which) was a nice touch, though. |

Devin is just as pissed about the system as we are. It's Opera that is the problem. |

| I just saw icey at the forum here in Charlotte a week ago. When i walked in a local had ghosts n stuff by deadmau5 playing. I was blown away by the clean, crisp, loud sound of that system. I mean im there every week but for some reason that song really hit me cause it has so many little melodies and synths layered in it. You could hear it all so loud and perfect. My body was shaking from the bass but yet perfect clear sound. Im glad we don't have to deal with operaish sound systems here in Charlotte. :D |

Whoever said nails on a chalkboard...it's spot on.
The sound quality is comparable to cell phone audio played very very loud (like YouTube videos)...no melodies, distorted, and very dirty. |

I really dont know what everyone is talking about with the sound being horrible. It is right up there with some of the better sound systems I have heard in the US.
Now in the middle of the crowd it is going to be a little drowned out from the sound reflecting off of people in the crowd in an abnormal way but this occurs in any club with lots of people in it.
I have tons and tons of video from this night where you can hear the melody just fine even with the bass going so really, if the sounds not good enough then I dont think you will ever find happiness in any kind of big club. |

Hom was a very small club that held less than the mark in the main room. Even Hom turned the volume up to where it distorted |
