is it ok with the catholic church if you use the "pull and pray" method or is that considered birth control too? |
I think their official position is that all ejaculations should be in a vag otherwise it's sinful. Thank god for confession/absolution.... "forgive me father for I have sinned"
"what is your sin, son"
"I blew a hot load all over my wife's last night!"
"are you repenting or gloating?" |

I think it's somewhat unfair to think that the church - which claims to be the moral authority - to condone moral relativism. |
I think it is dumb to say, in the face of being shot in the head or mauled by a bear I am still going to keep doing what got me in that position. Preaching abstinence is fine, but you can take a stance that also says, "If you are going to do it, at the VERY LEAST use a condom." It isn't that hard. You aren't condoning it, just giving useful and good advice. |

Ben, for the church it isn't about preaching abstinence as a good idea; it's preaching abstinence as a moral imperative. Premarital and extra marital sex is a sin in the eyes of the Roman Catholic church, as is the use of birth control; you cannot expect a church to preach that because you're probably not strong enough to avoid one sin you should make it a double! Morality is not relative; in order for the church to have any credibility on moral issues then it cannot endorse the idea that morals are situational. I agree with you on a practical level for any person or group that is not the church; however, the church is not about practicality. |

I fail to see the logic in saying, "we don't support this, but these are alternatives that, if you choose to do so, you are committing another sin." This is not putting the credibility of the church on the line. They are just putting the decision on you with the information they have given you. They will of course attempt to steer you in the way they believe, but we all know that. |

true, but backward ass teachings like this which are completely out of touch with present day reality are exactly why there are less asses in the pews on sunday mornings. at one point it was the position of the church that women should be completely subserviant to men but they have modified that teaching as society changed. why do they feel the need to be so ing backwards when it comes to birth control? |

The church's role is to preach piousness not harm reduction. I think you have to blame the parishioners on this one, not the church. The Catholics that are having unprotected pre/extra marital sex are picking and choosing their sins... the church is teaching them to avoid both, if they would listen then they wouldn't have a problem. |
